2002 Yamaha R6 - $3800 (Houston, Texas)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reply to: sale-658639536@craigslist.org
Date: 2008-04-27, 6:35PM CDT

Make: Yamaha R-6 2002
Owner: One Owner
Purchased: Towards end of 2002.
Brand NEW: Battery, Front & Rear Dunlop Sport Race Tires, Front Rotors, Front & Rear Brake pads.
Mileage: Approx 12,000 miles
Price Negotiable. I will only accept cash or credit card.

IN A NUT SHELL:
This is an extremely fast bike 0-145+ mph in seconds. Balanced and handles as if brand new. Bike needs a little work; Carburetor tune up/ rear fairing w/seat/ & 2nd gear replacement.

Summary: This Yamaha R-6 2002 was only used for about a year and a half. It has very low mileage for a 2002 model. The mileage is not showing due to the old battery going out, it reads 13,333. Motor-cycle has only been driven periodically for maintenance purposes.

ENGINE (Carbureted): Was taken to a mechanic to be inspected. Is currently running on 3 cylinders due to needing a basic carburetor cleaning/tune up, which as a result, the bike cuts off when idle(not in motion)sometimes, and has a minor leak (common in carbureted motors, when due for tune-up). In spite of cleaning carburetor, motor cycle is extremely fast 0-125 mph in few seconds, with torque still at 125mph to pick up speed to 145+ (that only on 3 cylinders). With bike being carbureted, it is easier to accelerate, and utilize the gas and air combination to its fullest potential, not an option available in fuel injected bike.

HANDLING: Bike Handles and rides extremely well, as if brand new. Balancing seems to be perfect.

BODY: I was teaching a buddy of mine to ride in a neighborhood several years ago, he hit a curb 10 mph, and the rear fairing combo was damaged, with a few nicks and scratches to the bike. Note: People always compliment the bike, even with the rear fairing missing.

GEARS: All gears work, w/the exception of 2nd. 1st gear has so much torque, that it would never slip into 2nd properly. According to the Yamaha dealership, they had a manufacturers call back on 2nd gear for replacements on many 2002 R-6 Models. With 2 gear out, M-cycle is still extremely quick. 2nd gear on a motor cycle, is not like 2nd gear on a car, transition from 1st to 3rd is smoother.

Note: Bike can still seat 2 people on main seat, and is worth noting, with all of the attention you get!
Please feel free to call me at (281) 658-2767 with any questions you may have.

That's why everyone likes those 600's......you don't need second gear with all that power!

"All gears work, w/the exception of 2nd."

By far the best part.

I disagree.... the best part is, "With bike being carbureted, it is easier to accelerate, and utilize the gas and air combination to its fullest potential, not an option available in fuel injected bike"

I did not know that on a fuel injected bike you couldn't use the gas to air combination to its full potential... I guess the engineers were wrong when they went with fuel injection instead of sticking with carbs...

Actually this used to be a true statement. Honda used carbs on it's race machines for a long time comparatively. When all of these other bikes were FI, Honda kept on with the carbs. They didn't inject their CBRs until the 929 came out in 2000. They claimed that you get a better atomization of fuel delivery with a carb that you cannot achieve with FI. Yamaha was the last to convert over to FI and when they did, it sucked.

Wow. I learned something new today!

I think I'll remove 2nd gear from all my bikes to save some weight!

wow - 3800 for that piece of sh*t~!? If that's market value for used bikes, I should have paid at least 3 times the 4500 I paid for my perfect-shape, tricked '01 FZ1 (2nd gear included).

LOL
