Getting this oil filter off...

I've got a 05 ninja 10r... the oil filter is literally stuck on there - ive tried using the F size filter tool (fits tight just slips alil when i apply force) and the normal kind

Nothing seems to budge it....last resort is the screwdriver method but i've heard horror storys about the filter crushing and still not coming off (even though it worked fine on my old TLS way back in the day)

anyone near the pasadena side can lend a hand or a cheater bar :p

thanks

My factory filter was on TIGHT. Used a set of big-mouth oil filter pliers to get it off.

Next time, use a K&N, screw it on just a little tight, then safety wire it.

I've heard of this, where can I find a picture that shows what this looks like?

i normally just hand tighten it with the oil smuged on there..but this bike i bought used and both the filter/plug were just manhandled

hence why i can't get this dang filter off, i used liquid wrench just to break the plug bolt...

but i'm not a strong guy sadly enuf

I use a cheapo tool from HiLo that fits over the end of the filter, and you can use a 3/8 ratchet on it. Also because it is a complete pain to use a normal filter wrench on mine...

I hear you on this. Funny enough I just changed the oil on my 04 10R today!!

I'm not the strongest either and my filter was on TIGHT! I had my dad give me and hand and he got it broke loose. I'd say get some sort of rubber glove (real grippy) and give it another try.

Also, this is very easy, trust me, just do it, but get some aluminum foil or something similar and put it on top of your headers directly underneath the oil filter for when you take it off. I completely unscrewed it and kept it upright(so no oil would drip out), and pulled it out between the middle of the headers. The foil collected any oil that dripped out and flowed into the oil collector, when I removed the foil, I only got like 2 drops on the headers There's also some other little tricks to do when changing the oil if you'd like to know about those as well. I'd be glad to help considering I JUST did this properly on the very same bike. I got all the necessary tools I work off 290.

i'm in pasadena so i'd rather not ask for someone to visit from the far side of 290 unless i was paying your gas and buying you food

the poster above you is literally 5mins from me so that should be real easy

thanks again for making me feel welcomed.

I'm in Pearland. I read something about 290 and 6 so that's why I mentioned working out there. Just give me a shout if you need help, gives me a good enough excuse to get out and enjoy the 10R Are you on ZX-10r.net?

They have a lil nut on the end to make it easy with a hole through it for safety wire. K&N's what I use on my bike and they work great. Only thing I would take over a K&N is a Scott's. But they are $160 . I had one that came on the 01 and left it on there when I traded it in. About a week later I realized how much they cost.

Try getting that bish off with channel locks.

It's all good. You got a pair of channel locks? I had trouble getting a filter off once. Just open the mouth on those channels locks open, get a good grip, have someone hold the bike steady and man-handle that bish. Worked for me.

That's why I emailed him and told him someone here would likely help for free. If someone is in the area, never hurts to lend a hand for someone in the community.
