just don't total out your bike at the track and you have liab only, with a large balance on the bike. If the bikes paid off then you dont have much too worry about. This happened to poporider with his.

In order:

Street riding pants/ good gauntlet style gloves/ good over the ankle boots
Brake lines (SS or Kevlar)
Brake pads (EBC, my preference, but on the track I roll Vesrah)
Suspension setup (not rebuilt, but just set up for you- cheap mod)
Track day (or many, after the first, you'll be hooked)
Slip-on or full system (if you get a full system, I'd get the PCIII too)- I'd personally only get an exhaust if I crashed and needed to get one though.
Suspension upgrades
Adjustable clip-ons
Rear sets

Don't forget, for cheap, you can rent full leathers, gloves, boots from!

If you've got a stack of cabbage layin around, do your list. If not, start with a suspension setup. Then move to "control" pieces (ie levers, rearsets, clipons, etc). Then brakes, damper, suspension.
Most of all, take these guys up on the trackday talk. Do as many as you can afford. You don't "need" to upgrade the bike. Chances are you aren't riding it to it's potential anyway.
