First Ticket in 10 years

I be . Today on the way home from work cruising down Westpark Toll road. I got my first speeding ticket in 10 years (80mph). I hate the (going with the flow tickets). After the cop was done writing my ticket I proceeded down the toll road only to see 3 more people pulled over within just the next two miles. Goes to show ya, it must of been quota time

those tickets are the worst, but isn't the speed limit on the westpark 65? Sounds to me like only 1 finger to point....that does suck though.

you've already seen it - look at Houston traffic.

One cop per 10,000 drivers or so = Houston traffic

Wow. Thats not fun, especially since 80mph isn't that fast on the freeway with the traffic nowadays.....

I love to laugh at the some forums who think that just because most cops ride that they exclude all but the squidly type from tickets and mostly give warnings. Whenever i get pulled over, and i have a PERFECT record as well, i expect no mercy and rather someone to get me as much as they can to vent on their day....

Sheriff's office has 3 traffic stops a day to pull over. And normally nonstop calls all the time, so they have to squeeze in the stops to show adequate job performance (NOT ticket quotas), a warning would suffice. But with the stress and frustration some of them must feel with the job sometimes, i'm sure they don't think "what if i were a rider in his shoes" but rather just let you have it..

I have all respsect for their position and would probably not be the nicest officer If i were them....

I work in call center with collections, after a while i could care less about the reason the people are behind and just cut to the money. I don't care about excuses cause 99% are lies about irresponsibility etc. A cops the same way i believe. After being surrounded with the filth of crime, giving you a break for "breaking the law" isn't the top priority. They at least caught you... and even though its not purposely vengeful, i think that some of them just don't care about your excuse or that you've never done it before. They just want to do something.
My 0.000002 cents

what do you mean "going with the flow tickets"? are you refering to the 85th percentile rule?

I'm assuming that's what he means, but I can guarantee you won't convince some judge that the "flow" of traffic was 80 mph....the 2 cars in front of you, maybe, but certainly not the "flow" of traffic.

Call it what you want... but they have a minimum number of tickets to push put/write.... yeah, no qoutas per se... but they know they have to write a certain number of tickets to get a review...

It is so funny when people say that cops don't have qoutas when budget limits enforced by the city take into account revenue collected by traffic violations. This is based on a percetage of collectable fines per the number of citations issued. Don't give me that about no qoutas, any business person (politicians included) know the details of budgetary requirements...

They'll probably have room for one more.

Of course I'm the only one to blame. I accept 100% responsibility. Without a doubt I have done my fair of speeding in my lifetime. During the course of 25 years of driving, this makes my third. And every one of them have been going with the flow tickets. I consider it due payment for the times I was speeding "going above and beyond the flow". For those that don't think 80mph is going with the flow on the Westpark toll road need only to hop on that road mid-morning or mid-afternoon.

Dasboot, don't know what you mean by the 85% rule. But if you mean 85% of the traffic is going at that speed, then I would say yes....that's what I mean.

For those that don't believe their is a quota system, you're nuts. Indo puts things into the right perspective. When number of tickets are part of your review and you get a bad review for not issuing enough tickets....that officer in turn will write more tickets to get a favorable review.

Look at this guy owning up to his mistake. AWESOME!!! and hear I thought 290 was bad about "the flow" being 10 mph or better over the posted limit. Maybe I should hit up Westpark more often. Muh bad FKNA!

I wish it was 10 MPH over, it seems like every time i have to go that way the flow of traffic is 10 MPH...
