98 gsxr 600 question...

I am new to this and this may sound dumb but does my bike have a choke that needs to be used when its cold? I know my dirtbikes have one and they wont idle or start up as easy without using it.... I keep my bike in my dorm room where its not cold but cool and when i bring it out it takes it a few minutes to warm up and idle on its own. I was wondering how long it usually takes for the bike idle on its own and for it to be safe to ride. Earlier i took it around the block, came back, it was showing like 140 and when i pulled in the clutch and began to slow down it cut off. It also when i was just sitting there would cut off and wasnt staying on. Im not sure if it was the whole choke thing or what but it scared me. The first thing i thought of was oh it needs a tune up...any ideas....thanks :BangHead:

i always use the choke if its been sitting for more than 12 hours.

I let it warm up as long as it needs, most of the time only 10 seconds.
