Rider Down - Alvin

Alvin High School teacher and coach Ray Garza was in a motorcycle accident yesterday afternoon on 1462. He was life-flighted from the scene and remains in critical condition this morning. There is not much other information at this time. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Wow, FM1462 is a pretty straight road. I wonder what happened.

Details are unsure. My mom teaches at Alvin HS and I work at Manvel HS. He was my teacher when I went to school there. We have heard several things but I am not going to announce anything I do not know to be fact. Only thing I know for sure is he was still in bad shape this morning and going into surgery. Can only hope for the best for him and his family.

I just received an update:

Doctors worked most of the night to stabilize Ray and early this morning he was taken into surgery to help relieve some pressure in his head.

The immediate family has seen Ray for the first time since the accident and considering the magnitude of the accident are encouraged by his appearance. The doctors are seeing an improvement in his condition and have placed him in a drug induced coma. He is still experiencing some bleeding in the brain but all body pressures are good and improving and all are encouraged by the progress he is making.

Wow, let's hope the head injury is minor. Sounds like (and I am assuming here) he may not have had a helmet on. Best of luck in his recovery.

Yes from what I understand he was not wearing a helmet. Sadly, a helmet would've made this situation a whole lot better.

This suck he was one of my coachs in HS and to touch on 1462 as a FireFighter there are alot of accidents on that road which makes it one of the worst in the Alvin area. My prayers are with the family and him as well.

Ray had a reasonably good night last night. He is stable but remains in guarded condition. His improving condition has allowed doctors to move forward with some of the required surgeries that will begin today.

I received word that they are planning a benefit ride. As of now it is tentative for May 16 or 17. But I will post up once some definite info is available.
