Hike to Fund Infrastructure Upgrade Stirs Transport Policy Debate

'These improvements are expected to cost $225 billion each year for the next 50 years. The current fuel tax of 18.4 cents per gallon would be increased by 5 to 8 cents annually for five years, beginning in 2009, and then indexed to inflation. This tax has not been increased since 1993, and recent efforts by Congress to raise it have not been successful mainly because of objections by the Bush administration. According to the Commission, other sources of revenue for transport infrastructure improvements could come from tolls, peak-hour "congestion pricing" on highways, freight fees, and ticket taxes for passenger rail improvements. OK.... How about an insane experince, and thank i wasn't commuting on my bike that way....

Driving @ 290 interchange with 610 and I10. I had a mother following my wife and I with about less than 50 feet away behind us.... She had her 3 kids in her SUV. She's from new zealand and needed help with directions, doesn't know houston well.

All of a sudden hear a screeching rubber skidding sound and can't see anything, only to watch in my rear view mirror a car sliding over 50 mph sideways in front of her. She hit her brakes and i ended up slowing, but of course kept going a bit to avoid any possible pile up that could occur. I put my flashers on, slowed down since i saw that she had moved around the guy and started following me. As i was going 50 mph or so, a silver accord, same guy that had just spun out in front of xx's of cars speeds by like no tomorrow.....

The mother told me that he had his arm hanging out of the car the whole time like he didn't care and was just joy riding....

Do you blame me for moving to TN in one year? I can't keep dealing with this! Give me Deals Gap over i10 interchange ANYDAY.
