Joe Rocket, A Stars, Icon ? Other safety gear

Ok guy i am curious with the quality of many manufactures of good quality gear i see many vendors in this area push alpinestars, Joe Rocket and Icon on so many people when there are other companies that have just as good of quality if not better than these companies. Companies like Dainese ( which is my personnal prefernce ) First Gear, Bates, Tour Master, Teknic, Panthers and the list goes on and on. I am just curious can someone help me here?

I have alot of Frank Thomas gear. Never had an issue with it. Affordable FTW.

I disagree, I have thier leather Merc Hero ( http://www.rideicon.com/product_deta...y=1237&id=5764 ) jacket, and LOVE it.

Fits snug, moves with me when needed, and its not too heavy of a fit for the hotter months.

I dont like Icon too much, but my experiences are with a couple of their helmets. Their lids just arent that high of quality for the $$$. I have an Icon super duty jacket and like it just fine. They tend to break in quite a bit and get very roomy, so if you go Icon, go snug.

well if you don't plan on crashing, why wear gear?

never gonna wear ICON stuff, so chances are even slimmer that i'll crash in it.

you mean pics i've seen, thats what i go by and rider reviews from crashes. enjoy it, cuz your skin is depending on it.

I disagree as well. If I were to pick one of those manufacturers and label it as junk it would be Joe Rocket. Each one of them makes some very nice stuff and some crappy stuff(with the exception of a*). Just find out which specific item you want and read up on it(reviews, etc.). I have an Icon Accelerant leather jacket and absolutely love it, the leather is thick(heavyyy) and I think it'd fair just as well as any of the a* jackets on the market in an accident.

my gear list is:
ARAI RX7
Dainese 2 piece leathers ( even though i mostly wear the jacket) im saving the pants for when i have a track day.
Olympia Gloves
Vanson Mark 2 Challenger for colder weather
and believe it or not Icon boots
I also have a Scorpion exo 700 helment

The main reason i asked this question is just about every shop i have gone to in town pushes the lower end gear. But try to claim it as being the best.
All gear will protect you to a certain level lord knows its better than riding in nothing at all. But it is my belief that the reason you dont see or hear much about the high quality gear is due to the fact is it cost more for one and you dont see every stunter in town or video wearing Vanson leathers or Arai helments so they arent considered cool or hip or what ever the F*** you want to call it.

also the higher end brands like vansons are rather bland, black and black.......vs "sponsor" patches and what not......ricky racer FTL!

My Icon motorhead is made out of some heavy leather and even though it hasn't been tested by me the jacket feels great and makes me feel safer.

i'm no crash test dummy, but working in the e.r. here in galveston and for galveston ems,for the most part if you go down har enough, that $600 helmet will be the same as the wal-mart $75. when your brain swells,it doesn't care if your helmet is a arai, shoei,or whatever brand you have. i have witnessed that!!! imo if it has the snell and DOT on the back it's fine with me. i have an icon tough luck #13 and i also have a kbc dark zombie. i still have my walmart bell too. no,my shield have never blown off or no parts of my helmets have ever broken off. imo gear is to minimize injury, not take it away.

I wrecked in my motorhead Icon jacket and it held up great, I am very impressed with Icon gear except for there helmets I prefer shoei.

I usually just but whats the most comfortable and if I see something that is a great deal. Most of my stuff is mixed as well.
