No experience with Akuma, but I would steer clear of the Icon if I wear you. I had a mainframe a couple years ago and it was a piece of . The plastic venting and the trim around the bottom of the lid both started to come unglued. I was in the process of filing a warranty claim with Icon when I crashed in it. The lid held up well in the crash (slide on my noggin' for a few yards).
To be fair, when I got back in touch with the representative at Icon who I had started my warranty claim and told them not to worry since I wrecked in the lid, they were super cool about it. They said they were glad their product protected me and offered to sell me a new Icon at cost. So, they have good customert service at least.
But then, I bought a new Icon lid from them and had the same complaints. Build quality is just not that high of quality. Plus, the helmet never seemed to stop breaking in. It just seemed to get looser and looser.
So, I shelved that lid too and went to Shoei, and havnt looked back since.

Icon isnt as good as some of their competitors, but they arent as bad as some others. They price just doesnt seem to match the quality IMO.

Close to your price range:

Cheaper, but no graphics:

Poke around on Newenough.com and give Patrick at Motorcycles Unlimited a call. He can help you pick the best lid for your head shape, and can hook you up with a good deal.

Good luck!

Kinda looks like a Shark brand lid's shape.

Agreed, Icon isnt SO terrible, but for the $$$ you can get much better IMO.

Plus, you dont have to buy a graphic-ed helmet to get a cool paint yob.
I plan on buying a plain RF1000 for my next lid and having my best friend (stupid graf kid) paint it up and clear coat it.

Thats awesome! The photochromatic on the Wiki sheilds is like transitioning lenses for eyeglasses, the tinting is dependent on the light. TOD sounds great!

Thanks for the info.

Get a Shoei RF-1000.

If you're going to spend 4 bills on one of those POSs, why not get a good helmet instead?

Shoei or even some of the Suomy's or Arai's.
Give Brandon a call at the shop and he can help you out.
If you come by we can make sure you get properly sized / fitted.
