Just a good brand of Clear coat, you get what you pay for. You would be surprised the difference between putting a good clear coat on your paint, and a cheap kind.

For instance the Clear coat on my F4i in my sig is automotive car clear coat my painter got some guy from the GM plant to "borrow" for him so I got a good deal on it *giggles*

Now, you need to clarify if you're a. rattle can painting or b. "professional" painting with a paint gun and good paint.

While some rattle can jobs can look nice, it takes much patience!

One option you may want to check on with Houseofpain is shooting a top quality enamel or urethane color paint and have him shoot a nice clear coat on top.

Now a better option is to hit up Tony (Houseofpain) and have him paint the bike for you. It's probably a lot more affordable than you may think!

Roger- "factory" clear coats are not that great of a quality. Most of the automotive paint from the factory is made just for what they need- mass produced and lower quality. The aftermarket clears are so much better by comparison- my personal favorite right now is the PPG 2K system. Tony (Houseofpain) has another brand of clear that he is currently using that he really likes a lot too. Long story short, the after market or replacement paints are much better quality.

Thats the kind of paint we got, it wasn't from the "factory" it was from their paint department

:dontknow:

Regardless, PPG makes some great paints/ clears, Dupont makes paints/ clears that are more affordable (but they also make high quality paints/ clears, but they are just as expensive and just don't have the depth that PPG seems to get), I can't remember what Tony was using lately (he told me, but I've slept since then), but he really likes it too.

If you take your time, get some good quality rattle can paint, you can do a decent base/ clear paint job. The rattle can jobs never seem to look as good as even a decent quality "pro" job, but if that doesn't matter, just take your time and be patient.

Remember, the paint job only looks as good as the prep work underneath it

i love ppg's products....

but, when it comes to clear i use ppg's "house brand" Omni clear. i prefer it because it seems to flow better and allow more working time, for cutting and buffing..

i have 3-4 cars ive painted with this "cheap" clear 3+ years ago and all of them still look great. if i were painting MY bike i would use it.....

i guess its TO EACH HIS OWN !!
