I've emailed both my senator & house rep (assuming the bill moves from the Senate on to the House for a vote there) again. Did so before the committee vote, and am following up now that the bill will (hopefully) get on the calendar for a full vote in the Senate.

"I'm pleased to say that SB506 passed committee by a 7:2 vote. I hope to see it placed on the Senate calendar for a full vote by the Senate soon.

I'm asking for your support of this bill.

It will benefit both motorcyclists *and* the cars that share the road. By letting cyclists filter to the front of the line, it allows all the cars that would have been behind them move up and get through traffic lights in fewer cycles.

It gives cyclists the option to protect themselves against rear-end collisions, which are extremely dangerous for a motorcyclist.

It will encourage more riders to leave their cars at home, reducing congestion, pollution, fuel consumption, wear on the roads, and parking congestion.

What's not to like?

Thank you for your consideration,

xxxxxxxxxx"

I wonder if we'll be able to get away with splitting at slow speeds in the HOV when conjested when this passes? It's not 2 lanes of traffic....

I hope

FIND MY SENATOR AND EMAIL HIM

Good job, we have almost 3000 views, and very little action? I wish more would take 5 seconds from their day. It means a lot to some of us... Some biker love please people?

Hate to say it, but time marches on and the odds on this bill getting all the way to the governor's desk are not great. The wheels of the legislative process turn slowly, and the clock is running out.

I asked an acquaintance who spent 18 years presiding over the Senate, and he told me that if the bill hasn't left its house of origin by now, it's not looking good.

I'd love to, but that'd be rather like praying to to help ensure you get the last slice of pie. Big cannon for a mosquito.

If he wants to pull a string, he already knows I'm interested in seeing it pass; it's up to him whether he wants to spend the political capital.

lol. I was excited to see it get this far, but with a rather small support base, I've been prepared that it's just not important enough to those polictically minded to pay much attention.

Oh well, there's always next legislative session if it doesn't go through... and we can wait 2-3 more years :-O

That's it exactly.

I was there for the committee meeting - and gave testimony. I got grizzly looks from Sputnik, and glared at by Senators that think this isn't safe.

I hear from riders left and right - up and down forums that want it. No, that WANT IT. But, everyone is just sitting by and just posting about it. Please... pretty please... go CALL your Senator.

Fill up the voicemail.

Carona's office is certain that if we can get 21 verbals we can get this to the floor Tuesday. If it passes we have a shot. It's already gotten farther than it ever has before.

http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/ That is how you find who represents you. CALL them. It takes less than a few minutes and is far more effective than sending an email. The TMRA was certain we wouldn't be able to pull this off, if just because we haven't had a voice before. Be a voice. PLEASE, be a voice.

Ok. that's the challenge then, EVERYONE who actually makes a change, POST A REPORT OF A VERBAL CALL. I'm calling on monday first thing, put this on your calendar, find the phone # and call your rep on monday, get 21 verbals out.

Also, if you are part of two wheeled texans or any other group please post this request up. We've had almost 3000 views on this thread, but it can't hurt to ask for some help from other riders as well to call. Maybe we can get 30 calls?

1. Specterunseen (calling monday for sure)

No, its out of senate committee. Primarily need to reach Senate reps first to get it actually heard and passed. Otherwise it will fall by the wayside.

Pardon my ignorance but it is SB506, SB=Senate Bill, it's out of Senate
(passed) and now is on it's way to the House? Or, is it out of comittee and
now on it's way to the Senate floor to be voted on, then to the House.

I am confused...

I think this is my guy from that link.. Senate District 18--Senator Glenn Hegar

If that sounds right then sure I'll give him a call on Monday. What do you say when you call up? "Please support senate bill 506."?

I'm amazed this has gotten this far and so little action from people

I am confused...

It'll go to the senate floor, for the whole senate to vote on it...

Then if it passes, it goes to the House, likely to a comittee... then for a comittee hearing/vote, then full house vote.
