buddy's cruiser problems

My buddy has a HD sportster. He said he was riding to wk today and it was all good. A few miles from his house it just shut off, as if someone just turned the key off. Couldnt push start it or anything. Lights and everything were still on...any ideas?

Hate to suggest, but did he inadvertently hit the kill switch? It's not as uncommon as it sounds.....

If he immediately lost power, it's more likely something electrical related. Ignition switch, kill switch, kickstand switch, ignition coil, etc. I don't know much about HD's so that's all I can suggest.

seems that the ignitor, or voltage regulator going out is a farily common problem on the late model sportsters.

This reminds me of something my dad told me many many times throughout my childhood when i asked him anything about his motorcycle experience
*my dad had one of the original honda hawks when he was 18-old guy*

He always told me his friends would come up to him and try and get him to buy a harley "hey man buy a harley then you can ride with us in packs!

I'll never forget what his friends main argument on why he should get a HD was.

If you get a harley man... We can all carry parts to all the bikes in our saddle bags and when one of us breaks down we will all have enough parts together to fix it!!"

Every time my dad told me the story he laughed and said "Why would I buy a bike that breaks when I can ride a Honda??"
