Cops Clock Man on Motorcycle at 156 Mph

MOUNT CARMEL, Tenn. — Mount Carmel police say a Kingsport man clocked driving a motorcycle 156 miles per hour may have been testing the town's new speed enforcement cameras. Authorities said 23-year-old Loda Eugene Ward Jr. has been charged with reckless driving.

Police say the cameras were not activated last week, but an officer on patrol clocked him at the high speed. Police did not pursue but an arrest warrant was issued and they detained Ward on Sunday.
Mount Carmel police said Monday they suspect Ward was testing the cameras because he had removed his license plate to avoid detection.

Police say the camera's maker has assured the department they will capture the image of a vehicle speeding up to 200 mph.

Obviously no one has ever lived in a small town?????

Mount Carmel, TN = 4,795 people, 1,935 households, and 1,499 families residing in the town.

troublemakers, bad drivers, etc. are usually on a first name basis with cops!!!!

it's the whats next thing. Now they watch the streets. Is your back yard next? Do they watch you at work? Do they watch you friendly poker game with the guys. There are little things that everybody does that are against the law.

They recognized his taillights of course!

I don't know how well speed enforcement cameras would work on something like a highway where a lot of people speed in a bunch of lanes. I'm usually going at the speed limit on the side streets, you just never know where the popo are hiding. Plus speeding reduces your time to react to idiots pulling out in front of you.

I think that it is government over stepping it's boundaries at it's best... wasn't it Ben Franklin that said "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. " ? I think that says it right there. We, the people, every day have been giving more and more freedom for a false sense of "safety". At this rate, there will be a camera on every corner and eventually in homes (it will start with people on house arrest or probation, and progress from there).

I think that people should protest these cameras because it takes away my freedom to choose... and yes, it is different than a cop doing it. I am responsible enough to obey the laws, and I generally do, but I don't like hearing that my freedom could be taken away by gradualism which all started with red light cameras (which I am somewhat for) or speed cameras (which I strongly oppose).

Just my .02

, don't like this one friggin' bit.

I don't like the red light cameras (although they have proven their worth in the reduction of accidents), but this is a whole 'nuther thing.

Hah, i think they should put gps on bikes and if you go 5 over they mail you a ticket. Oh, and tilt sensors for wheelies.

Seriously tho, i gotta give the idiot props for giving me something to laugh at. Lol, take on a speed camera head on... genius

Red light cameras are B.S. --- they take a pic of the the rear plate of your vehicle---if i ever get one---i will demand that they prove that " I " was the one driving that vehicle at the time and they will not be able to---Sooo DISMISSED!!! And if this guy was smart---since they didnt actually pull him over at the time that he supposedly did it---then i would fight it the same way---" prove that that was "me" on that bike at that time"---and they seriously wont be able to!!!
