15 months ago, my wife and I put money down to start building a new house. 4 months went by and they hadn't even started on our house. So we started getting worried at that point. Finally they started on it. We had some modifications for wheelchair clearance like a custom shower and widening all of the doors to a minimum of 30 inches. When it came time to close on that house back in October of 2007, they had turned a $17,000 credit into a $17,000 additional charge and I was . They refused to work out the deal so I walked away from a nice house. Immediatly, we started searching for another builder. We found one and they were great to work with. Everything was awesome. They catered to my needs and understood. They went out of their way to help me out. It was great. So we started the build around November and we got moved in this weekend. After selling my old house and living with my uncle for 3 months, I was happy to call a place home again. I just wanted to share my joy with my fellow MH'Ride Smart. Once I get everything set up, I may host a race watch party.

Here's the new pad.
HOUSE
Wow it pretty!!

Very nice. I like that they even got the right profile on the shutters for the arched windows!

Congrats Brian, I'm glad to hear things have gone well with this new builder! My parents live in Silverlake, just on the east side of 288 at 518. We're down there about every other weekend.

We'll have to race some time I bring my new Mustang GT down there... provided you haven't done any performance mods to it.

meh on the z but i LOVE the house.

Can you post pics of the floorplan, by any chance? In the next 2 years or so we plan on building on our ~44 acres and are looking to spend anywhere from $200K - $250K; looking for a good builder in the B/CS / Houston area.

Building on your own lot will typically cost a lot more for less house. Also trying to get someone out to a remote location is difficult. Finding the crews is the hard part ie framers, plumbers, electricians etc. I went down that avenue and did my research cause I wanted something built but it wasn't anything I could afford. I know a few custom home builders and I can put you in the right direction...here is one that races quads. http://gmlanddesigner.com/

The best route in towns like Bryan is to find a mom and pop shop. My father-in-law builds metal homes but not in that area and they can do everything. It isn't that hard, you just have to go with some locals that know everyone instead of a big corporation. It is actually easier, and the personal interest in YOU is refreshing. When the time comes, let me now Amber, we got construction ties. In fact, I used to work for RC Slocum in College Station on the weekends with his son.

yeah the hard part is going to be getting water and electricity out there. I know its out there, because there are a few houses around the general vicinity :/: shouldn't be that hard, though.

I've never wanted a home built by Kiella or Omega. I just think the quality of their homes is horrible. That's all that people ever use around here. They look pre-fab-cookie-cutter to me. Never wanted I've ever wanted.

I know that I want all brick, wood floors (or wood-laminate), 3-4 bedrooms, at least 2.5 baths, an open island kitchen, sunken and a detached garage (or HUGE metal building)

kev - is there any hookups you DONT have?

Know the phrase "It isn't what you know, but who you know?" well it is true. I got lots of connections all over the place. BTW, my wife has a degree in design and works for an architectural firm. She can draw your plans/design any house you want as long as it isn't over 2 stories. If you see some plans close to what you want, save a copy, she LOVES designing houses and would do it for free for one of my girlfriends if I ask.

Sorry for the thread Jack. :/:
