we had an old yzf 750 that sat at the shop for 2 years and couldnt figure out what ws wrong finally a customer brought one in and i swapped it and that son fired right up

it needs a ground...power..and an excitation voltage then after it has excitation it moves from one side to another with voltage to continuosly run the bike until you turn it off...thats kinda how it works
