fishin trip advice?

my old man turns 50 on may 30th. i'd like to take him on a full day charter boat fishin trip. it's gonna be about 10 of us. does anybody have some phone numbers or can tell me about a good trip they've been on? i'm lookin around on the internet but can't find anything solid. i'd like to get a boat to ourselves. not one of those big dirty boats with like fifty to 100 people on it. anywhere near g-town or surrounding cities? any info is appreciated

You are gonna have a tough time with this because of the number of people. Most of the charter captains are licensed for 6 people. If you really do want to take ten on the same boat you can try Aqua Safari Charters out of Galveston. I believe he has the boat and license to go up to 18. Otherwise, consider 2 boats. Search charter fishing in Galveston.

It's been a really long time, but I used to hear good things about the "Shark Hunter II" trips out of Port A.

The Fisherman's Wharf in Port A. runs the two big catamarans (which are big party boats that you're not looking for, but they also run a smaller offshore private trip. I've been out with them and we always caught fish.

yeah, I think both the Shark Hunter and Fisherman's Wharf trips are for 6 max.

'05 year no one was catching big snapper

We limited out in Amberjack in a matter of 20 minutes, caught 3 large ling, mine was 47# the other two were 36 and 37#. Limited out in King. Caught like 3 keeper red snappers. But EVERYONE had problems that year.

'07 Last Summer early June

No amberjack in '07 but we were throwing back smaller snapper we caught so many. We were 1 shy of limiting out on Kings. Caught a 4' shark, and a 2 1/2' shark. Over 30 dolphin around 14" long. Lots of trigger.

last year ran us right at $200/person including tips. This year expect about $250/person They have a flat rate plus diesel, and he charges the price from when he bought the diesel, but he switced to biodiesel last year.

You want to wait till past June 1 so snapper season opens up. That or late fall when tuna season opens up. I would be willing to do a tuna trip, but I'm already buying my dad a summer trip. Father/son thing every year.

Moody, I will shoot it your way.

Our '05 trip we dealt with 16' swells in that 35' boat. Ever see the perfect storm? It seemed like that. And we STILL caught all that fish.

I deckhanded for my father who chartered out of galveston for years. Fuel was a killer and he sold the boat and got out. It was great to get paid to fish all weekend. I miss it. It was a 30' cat with twin diesels that could take waves from .

bad , yea the charges have changed, now they charge a flat fee for the boat and labor, and the fuel use is calculated at the end depending on how far or long you stayed out. I would love to do that for a few years at least.
