so im on "the wagon"

not for alchohol, but for smoking. im sure alot of you have seen the commercial for that new prescription drug CHANIX. i talked to my doctor and got the details, and it has a 66% success rate, plus Mel has a couple of friends that she works with that have done this and they have quit smoking without the cravings. those of you that smoke know how chemically addictive it really is. ive been smoking for a little over ten years and have tried to quit several times unsuccessfully. now that i have three children old enough to know whats going on, and another on the way, its time to kick this disgusting habit. and yes, as a smoker, ill be the FIRST to admit that its disgusting. why do i do it? because im addicted. for those that are curious, its not covered under insurance, but its not priced badly either. its roughly 100 dollars a month, and the program is three months.

wish me luck fellas.

well see thats the thing. when people quit "cold turkey" theyre pissy cuz theyre still DESPERATELY still wanting that nicotine. this drug works by blocking some receptor in the brain that gives you the craving. so hopefully i wont have to kill too many people, but itll be worth it.

Yeah, wtf you quitting for? Our family runs the most popular cigarette store in Waco. Quitters like you make us lose money!

Good to see you being a man and taking care of what needs to be done for your children's sake. Good luck with it all Mike.

I heard about that receptors and nicotine. since you also like acupuncture. some say that acupuncture can also block receptors. lot of people try to lose weight that way as well by curbing food urges

good luck. My best friend is taking it right now. She said it makes her nauseous and makes her have really weird dreams.

Another coworker of mine said it made him constipated.

I just buried my Granny last weekend. Unfortunately, she could still be around, but smoking a pack and a half a day does not benefit the body. She lived to be 76, a full life in some eyes. Not for me. Seeing her lay there helpless, gasping for breath in her final moments, not so much fun. I "quit" about a month ago. I still have a smoke here and there, but it is dwinddling (sp?) down. I think I have one smoke left in my pack that I bought 3 weeks ago. As for Chantix (or any other nicotine alternative), I'll hold my thoughts. It's all in your head and will power. I'm giving it up naturally....getting married in 2 months also helps

Good luck Mike.

Good luck to you.

I quit on Sunday, cold turkey, as a promise to my daughters. Once your kids know better, they will hound you. Told them I would not smoke a day past my 39th birthday, which was on Saturday. I smoked from 18 to 26, quit for a long stretch, then picked it up again a few years back.

I tried to back way off before dropping alltogether. I think that's the way Chantix works, too. I am sort of fiending this nicotene starvation feeling. Reminds me what a fool I was for picking smoking back up.

Hang in there. You've made the right decision.
