Usually cheaper than Guitar Center/Musicians Friend.

If you're already used to the guitar that you have, why not upgrade it? Get new pickups, tuning keys, etc. Why is it going out of tune? Are you stringing it up correctly (you need at least 4 wraps on each string). Just some ideas ...

I got an guitar called the Vendetta made by Dean Guitars. Pretty solid guitar. It cost $119 but I was able to get it for $100 cash. Basic rock guitar but well made.
I have been playing guitar longer than a lot on this board are age wise
I can help you.. Your old guitar is probably needing some maintenence- not retired.

I have 2 guitars.

1 for PS2 and 1 for Xbox360...
I wish I knew how to play proper guitar.
I think I'll be taking lessons with my son soon.

Good luck finding the right guitar for you.

i have no intensions of getting rid of the amp it works and my mom gave it to me for free cant beet that with a stick the only thing i was worried about with the guitar is if the neck was warped or something had gone amuck with the head

Check these guys out also:
http://www.musicgoround.com/
I bought my Squier P-Bass from them for $125, a pair of Phonic SEM715's for $299 (just over half price from new), and various other stuff for good prices.
Oh, and +1 for taking the one you have to a shop to have it looked at - it may not be as bad as you think.
