Florida Passes HB 137, Speeders Face Vehicle Confiscation, Prison Time

http://jalopnik.com/368868/florida-p...on-prison-time

boooooo!!!!!

As of October 1st, anyone caught doing 30mph over the speed limit in Florida faces vehicle confiscation, five to ten years in prison and a ten-year license suspension. Bill HB 137, which was signed into law earlier today, was originally targeted at motorcyclists, but was amended at the last minute to include all vehicles.

That's pretty stiff. Seems like they could of just raised the fines or something else. I bet there will be more overpopulation in the jails pretty soon. Probably won't be long before other states start following suit. Communist America is coming.

Debated quite a bit, but one of the course stated it is essentialy a right, dependent as part of '..of life, LIBERTY and the pursuit of happiness'.
... I get the time, I'll find it.

...on the other hand, I'd love to see a justification for any person to be doing in excess of 30mph over the posted limit.

i don't feel like that's such a bad law... if you want or need to go that fast, find a track. last time i checked, those were still legal.

I'm all for this rule to be applied in TX...

Sure I don't go at posted speeds all the time... but 30 above is definitely excessive... this rule will be exceptionally good to keep cagers under control and the rest of us riding safely!

This country is getting to be a bunch of freak'n liberal wimps. I mean I hate lawmakers making laws like this. Can't do 30 over the speed limit but it is just hunky dory to kill your unborn baby.

I mean jail for speeding? Sheesh. Why does everybody wig out over speeding it ain't that dangerous. Sheesh usually people doing 30 over only do it for a minute or so just for the rush then slow back down. Jail is rediculous for that. I tell you what when Obama gets elected this country will be a socialistic or communist country in no time and because we are soo stupid it serves us right.

jails are already overcrowded as it it. sending people to jail for doing 30+ over the speed limit is just going to make it worse. imo they should just raise the fines

speeding is just another ticket they can write to make money... it has a little to do with safety on the roads... it's about making money. people driving 80 in a 60 doesn't cause accidents... i see it all the time on the freeways around here. 100 in a 70 on I45 north going to dallas isn't going to cause a wreck, but it will get the state tons of my money...

come to think of it... penalty for dui isn't even that harsh... facing 5-10?

i was thinking like 5-10 days, not years. that is a bit excessive.

And somebody needs to vote that STUPID senator out of office. Does a ride along sees a couple wheelies and passes a law. What a dweeb.

if speeding was about safety then an 8 lane divided freeway wouldn't have a speed limit of 60... like it does right here in houston

I thought you could already be jailed in the state of Texas for doing 30 mph over the limit. It falls under the category of reckless driving, if I remember right, but it is at the officer's discretion.

I agree in higher fines for speeding, but jail time is ridiculous. I'm with gixxerbill on this one. It's ok to kill your unborn baby, but speeding gets you thrown in jail? WTF?!

Oh, and I don't believe that driving is a right, it is a priveledge.
