Medical Microchip

Most everybody is familiar with microchips that are used on dogs. If you're not, read up here:
http://www.homeagainid.com/

Basically, what I would like to see is this system enacted for humans. I would like it to carry the necessary information needed in emergencies, such as: blood type, emergency contact, allergies, full name, etc. Obviously nothing that someone could use to steal your identity. Or possibly just a number that is impossible to change and corresponds with an electronic database that makes it easy for hospitals to access your information in an emergency situation. No more looking for the lost wallet and tracking down information, it'd all be at the swipe of a wand. Obviously, it would have to be optional but it could be done relatively cheap(it's very cheap on animals) and I think could be a great success. Obviously the plan isn't perfect and would undergo many changes before finalized, but I would love to be the guniea pig for such an idea. Thoughts?

Well, I thought I was a real innovator, until Wikipedia slapped me in the face:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microchip_implant_(human)

Still should make for some decent discussion!

actually read about them trying to do this in my current events class, we got a list of 10 ideas planned to be implemented in the future, and we had to choose the 3 we thought would be most valuable... was one of the ones my group picked heh.

i would definatly get it

in a motorcycle crash they may never find your wallet

the only problem is that it needs to be in an area were the risk of road rash is minimal so it doesnt get destroyed in an accident, inner thigh maybe?

There is a video in the political section that shows what they plan to use these chips for and really will not be a benifet to us. How true that is, who knows but the thought alone is some really scary , I tell you what (Hank Hill).

I'd do it if I had a way to interface with it to get data off of it. I have a similar thing in my body already. It is a pump for my spasms. You stick the pump programmer on the outside of the skin over the pump and you can read the data like the my name, flow rate, amount of medication left, projected date for the next refill etc. But obviously, they can't let me have a programmer for that cause it is a medication. But for the chip, they could give you a way.
