Unassailable on a motard!?!?

Clayton, I'm throwing this out there to get a general consensus of what others might think. . . Just wondering why you haven't taken the next step in your relatively short motorcycling progression and jumped on a big bore motard yet???? I think it's only natural for someone with your passion for stunting and riding the track to convert over to the darkside with the rest of us minorities. I feel as if a supermoto style bike combines the best of both worlds, amazing handling with hooligan style all around. My 525 SMR whoolies with ease and sliding this thing around is easier than anything I've ever ridden. As soon as i can pony up the cash and get another set of leathers I'll bring this out to some trackdays and let you take it for a spin The only downside is your other bikes will get extremely jealous of your love affair with the SM. Am i just crazy or does anyone else think it would be a perfect fit!?!?

While watching you at MSRH today I was thinking it already looks like you're on a motard with the way your bike looks.

Buddy I got bad news. I brought my priller and Larry's down to AF1 on Saturday. I came home with an empty trailer. His 450 is in the early stages of what happened to my first motor. My 550 has a whole new basket of issues. I'm currently drafting letter to Aprilia requesting a buy-back of my SXV.

I have my buddies 450 SMR in the garage though...... just kidding, can't do it.

i'm thinking of getting a cr250 2 smoke and motarding it... but i dont know about the noise restrictions of the 2 stroke on the track..... that is the cheapest way i can think of to get on a super moto.... or just wait it out and buy a motard...

Not to get this thread off topic...

There is a woman on a motard I've seen at some LSTD TD's a year or 2 ago. She was smoking on that thing! Her name evades me at the moment, but lots of people on here know/know of her.

My friend, also female, races a smaller motard in CMRA. So yes, they are out there. What are you waiting for? Get one! Then bring it out to MSRH and let me ride it.

back on topic now.

Just like track bikes, the cheapest route is to find one already set up.

I've got my crf450 for sale though..

OH YES! I am dead serious.

8 months, two motors and working on a third. Recent mechanical failure caused my highside and broken collar bone. Injury may cost me my transfer to San Diego, a transfer that will make me a full time diver and give me some awesome (read expensive/valuable) training and a MUCH needed change of pace/path in my career.

I will never ride an sxv again as things go now. I cannot ignore what has happened to me. I absolutely love the potential of the sxv, the power to weight is just awesome. Squanto84 said his bike, tuned with intake and exhaust, put out 78 HP on an eddy current dyno. This is a package that weight about 285 lbs with fuel! The bikes are truly amazing to me. BUT, as much as I love Aprilia and want to defend them, the engines are for quality. AF1 racing did not order any 2008 models for stock and they re arguably the best Aprilia dealer in the country.

how much do 450 motards run? i'd even go for a older 426 yami motard.. you can just put the 450 cam on those and they are a bit cheaper....

A little harsh don't you think Mike?:/: Perhaps you're referring to the motards (which sadly, I know very little about), but I have close to 5k mi on my rotax without a hick-up. And you know quite a few people on the ape forum that have hit 30 plus thousand miles on their apes, and they stayed running strong. So I'm assuming you have to be referring specifically to the tards.

YES YES YES!!!

I am very sorry for the misunderstanding. I ONLY referred to the XV motors.

The rotax power plants are supposed to be awesome over the long term. I only owned mine for a short while but i loved it and it was without issue.

I say again, the Aprilia/Piaggio XV motors are the ones with issues.

I'm just waiting for an Aprilia answer to the 848. I'm not sure why since there was never a model to compete with the 748/9 but I have my hopes up.

You got me real worried there bro. I didn't know the XV motors were like that. Anyway, I'm right with you for a response to the 848 and 749. I'm constantly trying to drag out info from Jon at AF1 when I talk to him, cause him and Ed had dinner with the designer of the V4 and they're getting some good info. Trying to get them to share.

That speaks volumes in itself. I was in love with this SXV's when i first threw a leg over one. . .powerplant issues kept me at bay I enjoy turning wrenches on my bikes, valve checks and regular service come with the territory on these race bred motors. One of the reasons i chose the KTM over some others.

On another topic since there are a few knowledgeable people in this SM thread, Do any of you know of any small HID lighting systems or quality driving lights(think PIAA) that draw 40Watts or less? My stator puts out very little free juice and i want to use it to my advantage until i can get a new flywheel and coil in this thing. . .
