Harley Sportsters?

anyone have experience with these bikes? the Nightster series has caught my eye for sure! i know hondas... but never had experience with a HD except taking apart the heads for autotech competition in high school.

are HD's reliable? or do they really leak oil like a SOB like people say?

Rode one once(883?) and I hated it, maybe it was just a bad seed but the one I road felt terrible.

if u are looking at that "style" of bike. Look at a v-max. Not sportbike handling bike but the power is awesome. I really would stay with the stuff altho the v-rod is not bad either.
U can find used v-maxes around sometimes for 5K or less and there are 20+ years of parts for it.

Shameless plug:

http://www.motohouston.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=46895

I have my 1200N for sale. I really do like the bike and havent had any problems at all. Although it doesnt have a lot of miles, I havent seen any issues or potential issues come around that all the Harley bashers talk about. No leaks anywhere and rides pretty consistent. Nothing falling off, or getting loose for that matter.

When i researched buying a Harley, it really seems they came a long way from what everyone still talks about. Harley bashers will always bash, usually based on hear-say.

If you are really interested, you can check mine out and give it a spin. A lightly modded HD is a completely different beast compared to stock. Check out www.xlforum.net. Plenty of usefull info there.

I had an 06 883 that I had converted to a 1200 at harley. It is an ok bike I guess. It leaks a little, and the ignition went bad. But all in all an ok bike. It is small though. Makes your legs cramp. Oh and it really needs a 6th gear.

the bike being small is what i like, it has a bobber look to it(or atleast how i will modify it, it will)

and Dru, thanks for the offer to take the bike for a spin, but i wouldnt be looking to buy anything soon due to leaving for basic training soon.

for a small bike just to cruise around on and "get away" i think something along the lines of a sportster would work for me.

I have more first hand experience in the world of HD than most people on this BBS and they are like any other motorcycle, they can have problems.
The Nightster is a great looking motorcycle and has been a big hit.
The stying is really cool and the 1200 motor is pretty quick in stock form.

I have dropped valves on Honda 600's, trashed several trannies on a new 636 and even had my starter clutch go out on my new KTM950SM in less than 400miles. The KTM had a service bulletin and re-designed part IN STOCK.
By what you like, they all have their issues.

I have rarely met anyone who rides their HD's as hard as I do. We just completed a high compression 103" motor in my 2008 FLHX Demo and it runs just fine. 105rwhp/102ft torque.
It pulls really nice first gear wheelies!!!!
