Texas Track Days, Thumbs Up

On the 8th I broke my collar bone out at the track.

That night I e-mailed Meril at Texas Track Days informing him that I would not be able to ride this coming weekend and I wanted to see what my options were since I had paid for a spot.

Meril was quick to reply and gave me the option of a credit for another day or a full refund. Since I think my track days in Texas are over I opted for the full refund. This is the short version of course but I was impressed with Meril/Texas Track Days' flexibility and asked for my money back MINUS $20 for their time and service. Well, they gave me a full refund anyway. (I'm not complaining)

I hope everyone has a good time this weekend with Texas Track Days!

Always good to see another track organization with good customer service.

That's cool of TTD to give the refund or credit. Very cool.

It's an ugly reality my friend.

Here we are in March and I'll be recovered from this incident in April. Then I have to get back in shape so I can pass a PT test and a physical exam to clear me for diving (military) which is even more thorough than an flight physical. Finally, I transfer in mid June.

As much as I would love to recover from this injury and get back out on the track, my transfer in June is an awesome opportunity and if I don't pass my PT test and get cleared medically I ain't goin'! I just can't afford to take that chance.

This last accident is a perfect example of how you can never be ready for everything and, happens. I went through a pretty good check list before the track day, changed oil, checked brakes, chain, controls, coolant.....
On top of that I wasn't even going fast when it happened, it was NOOB day and I was going a bit slow and showing the lines. There was no indication that something was going to malfunction in my motor, pressurize the cooling system, and cause it to overflow the expansion tank.

See, happens. As it is, if the wrong people found out about this incident I could possibly loose my transfer.

So, as I said. No more track time for me in Texas. It sucks big time but this is one of those times when I need to be professionally responsible.

, compared to the dislocated shoulder this was nothing. I was practically begging for pain killers at the hospital for that! This time I was just reluctant to move it much for an x-ray.

I am moving.

My transfer includes moving to San Diego. Oh don't worry, once I get there I'll be looking for tracks all over again!

So Cal has several nice tracks. And don't forget Laguna. It's pretty far from San Diego but it's closer than Houston is.

Yes, it is a bit closer than Houston. I'm going to have to accept that I am VERY spoiled in regards to track proximity. The nearest track to San Diego is at least two hours away as far as I know.

Priorities my good friend, Priorities. Mike you have your head screwed on right. We will miss you on the track...but I know you can't stay away. I will see you out there again. Not riding , but you will be there. And if you just happen to have more will-power known to man and don't come back out to see us, then speed your full recovery and good luck swimming with the fish. You have made a good choice for a career move.

Thanks!

I'll be keeping my house here and renting it out ( housing market). While I don't intend to return to the land of hurricane seasons and mosquitoes you never know.

Of course I'll need to come back and check on the house between tenants... That might be scheduled to coincide with a track day!

no no no ... that's further up north ... LA and Bay Area ... San Deigo is a freakin Paradise ... surfing and ski/snowboarding is not that far away either. Plus, last I checked those people still appreciate the military down there.

Thanks Jody, I've heard of that place.

What I'm really excited about is http://www.palaraceway.com/, it's under construction right now. It's going to be focused on dirt and supermoto. A road course might be in the plans for later on. Check out the layout and all the different tracks. I think my heart is going to lie in road racing though. Who knows maybe once I get some dedicated SM experience it may change.

Tony,
Once i get settled out there you will be more than welcome to visit!
