Bus w/ 24 elderly people explodes while evacuating.

DALLAS -- A fire in a chartered bus filled with elderly Hurricane Rita evacuees, including some who used oxygen, killed 24 people and injuring at least one near Dallas Friday.

Authorities said the bus apparently caught fire due to a mechanical problem, and that oxygen tanks then started exploding on gridlocked Interstate 45. Dallas County Sheriff's Sgt. Don Peritz said the brakes may have been on fire, leading to the explosion.

Re: Bus w/ 24 elderly people explodes while evacuating.

I heard that when I first woke up this morning... first thing which came to my mind: "Al Qaeda" LOL...

Seriously tragic, though. I understand the brakes caught fire.

mine too, I just dont understand how the brakes get that hot when traffic was that slow.
It took me 11 hours to get from Friendswood to Cleveland, mostly idling, if I wasnt in a diesel truck, I would not have made it, the truck just idled all day and crept along with the a/c blowin'. I would throw it in nuetral often to keep the tranny temp down, but over-all, dont think I would have made it in a gasoline vehicle. I used a 1/4 tank of diesel the whole trip right:

Re: Bus w/ 24 elderly people explodes while evacuating.

where'd you get a diesel?

I actually thought about sending my dad back in Sluggo III for that very same reason. Getting back from here is going to be a nightmare in of itself.

Re: Bus w/ 24 elderly people explodes while evacuating.

I saw the bus explosion site yesterday on I45 as we were driving back to Houston from Dallas. There was a makeshift memorial created over the charred grass.
