I'm looking to get a Blu ray player, should i spend a few extra bucks and get a PS3 or just get a DVD player?

Don't really play the ps2 that i have now, (maybe b/c i don't buy games) but if i get the PS3 i can do either.

anyone use there PS3 for the Blu Ray disc' and how do they work out for you?

ps3 is the best bang for your buck ray player. If you buy a cheapy and firmware comes up you wont be able to upgrade, plus you get an auto upscaler dvd player for free in the ps3 on top of a ton of other uses (starting to eat up all of my computer use and soon it will have tivo functionality thats already out in Europe )

I have a PS3 and it plays blu-ray DVD's AWESOME as well it upconverts everything else to max resolution you're TV can handle, for me that's 1080p.

You can come by sometime James and see what it looks like if you want to. I'm just right up the road.

ps3 is the shizz... Like stated above, it has more functionality that just makes it worth it. You can even buy the remote James so you can have that stand alone "DVD player feel"

hey, where did you buy your hd dvd player? ... if u bought it at circuit city, they are allowing their customers to return it and exchange for a blu-ray player.

also, as far as weather to get a ps3 or stand alone player ... I would only get the ps3 if your going to use it for gaming as well. if not, get a stand alone.
the biggest negative about the ps3 is that it doesnt support the dts-hd-ma, which is right now the top of line when it comes to audio ... but at the same time, you would have to have a reciever that decodes it as well. but either way, in a year or two all recievers will decode that, and you'll be if your ps3 wont!
here are some tips though about buying your stand alone blu-ray player. make sure that it has an ethernet port on the back, because if/when updated firmwares comeout, all you have to do is connect the ethernet port to your modem and it will automatically load up the most recent updates. second, make sure it HDMI 1.3 compatable.

oh ... and if you are willing to wait 2-3 months, I can almost promise you that you'll save a good amount of money ... for 2 reasons: 1) there are new models that are scheduled to come out in the next couple of months & 2) due to the fact that they are not competing with hd-dvd anymore, blu-ray prices will be going down. if you notice bestbuy every week is having good sales on bd movies. i bought 2 yesterday, and they gave me a $20 gift card. ... last week they had buy 2 get 1 free and the week before that they had $10 off like 20 diff movies.

ps3, for all the reasons already stated, most of all it will update, just need to hook it up to the internet. You can also get a TV type remote for the PS3 for about 20-25.00

I use my PS3 for blueray all the time.

i'll prolly get the ps3 at sams club, the remotes are cheaper, even if i only save $5. but on the other hand, IF CC is allowing an exchange of the players i may have to get it there...
