Need Map to Austin or San Antonio

My father and I are looking to ride the hill country(and three sisters?) this Thursday. I'm not real familiar with Texas country so I need some help on finding the good roads to ride that have little traffic and preferably a lot of scenery/hills/twisties/all the good stuff. I've heard Three Sisters mentioned a few times on here. I'm not sure if that will take us closer to SA or Austin though. We'll probably shack up Thursday night and come back Friday, so any good hotel reccomendations/restaurants/etc would be great as well. If you think neither of those routes are good and have something better please PM it to me, I am open to any suggestions

~Keith

Stay in Medina or Bandera, definately eat breakfast at the OST in Bandera. You want to hit up 335-336-337, which is South of I-10, west of San Antonio. You riding the bikes or trailering? If riding, I can set you up some good back roads.

All the good stuff around Austin is west of town, and a couple hours North of the sisters. It will take all day to do the sisters anyhow.

true, true.. really didn't plan it that way, honest! And I can confirm that my bike handles like with a flat front tire...

Let me work on it tomorrow, I am about done for today. Starting from Huntsville, correct? It won't be a real "map", but turn by turn and you can map from there.

Either Huntsville or Tomball area. Probably be easiest to just start from SH 249 as we'll be meeting at my father's house. Thanks a ton

... and do you want to stay in Bandera, Kerrville, or San Antonio? May want to call around and check rates.

Whichever is closest/most enjoyable. Roughly how many miles each way are we talking?

From 290/BW8 it was 270 or so to Kerrville, and a little more coming back; we went I-10 and backroads out, and up thru Austin and back thru Fayetteville on the way home. We did a 3 day trip; one day to, one day riding the Sisters, and one day back. Something like 900 miles total.

If you don't mind droning down the highway you can shorten it up, but backroads and stops every hour or so will add time.

We'd rather not do any highway(obviously we'll have some, but want it not to be your everyday ride). We are on a time budget though, so we'll be looking at one day down and one day back.

Prob will want to do Austin then. You won't do the Sisters in 2 days there and back, unless you ride at GP speeds. The Sisters by themselves is a 120 mile loop.
I can put you on some good roads to and from Austin, but can't help with lodging; never stayed there overnight.

Let me play around tomorrow after work and see what I can lay out.

Awesome thanks a ton! Just spoke to my dad and it looks like we'll be going to Austin around mid-day Thursday and trying to find a bed and breakfast or something of the like to stay in that night and then heading back to this side of town on Friday morning

All suggestions appreciated!

ok, day 1, from Tomball to Marble Falls.. 260 miles or so. Or you can come back down to the West side of Austin and add about 32 miles.

I would check into B&B in Marble Falls, because that is a nice little town and you'll be ready to take a break.

Day 2 still have to fine tune, but plan on a late lunch at Orsaks in Fayetteville.....
