Not all cops are a-holes as your title reads. I've met some really cool HPD officers. I'm going to a crawfish boil at an officers house today as a matter of fact! I think the officer should have just given you a ticket. Getting your bike towed had to be extremely frustrating for you. But if you ride illegally you must be prepared for the worse. But that particular cop sounds like an a-hole for taking that incident to the extreme.

whats funny is that they would pull that when your in a parking lot... you might have a case.... you were still on private property.. now if they pull you over and stop you when you are on the road then they can give you . i think you should get a laywer and get this taken care of...

Your fault, you just got caught.

BTW, "not knowing" is still your fault
Own up to your mistakes, and I'd still bet there's a lot more to this story than what we've seen here... IMHO.

I was going to ask if he even gave you the ticket... but then I thought... nah, he got the ticket...

I bet the tow truck guy was the one who saw it and told the cop if he got you towed, he'd give him a little kickback... I dislike vultures.... too many bad experiences with them.

Well, he sure could have written you one, but didn't. He showed compassion there... or was just being nice... not an ""- a lot of cops I know would have wrote you up too. Then you'd have the privilege of paying the ticket AND the tow/ storage fees.

Oh, and to the private property thing, if he saw you riding on the street (which he very likely did or would say he did anyway), that whole "defense" wouldn't hold water.

Lawyer up if you're gonna fight it, but I'd just chalk it up to a learning experience and get that out of the impound before the fees really rack up.
