One last little gem from the report:

QUOTE: King said HPD was not ready to announce the crackdown, so officers were unaware that Local 2 Investigates had hidden cameras following their patrols.
The crackdown has caught 442 drivers so far, but King said, "This is not revenue. This is fatality prevention."

Again, if prevention was the intent why not announce it?

"Granted this is probably needed, since there are complete idiots out there but, if it was intended to deter, why not announce it? Why keep it a secret as was revealed in the article….?"

I would imagine they wanted to try to catch as many as they could first...

Catch them, hit them with their tickets etc...then make the announcement, Double Impact.
Announce it first, then your deliberate/aware 'offenders' are likely to "behave" for a month or so, then start acting up again if it seems safe.

Still get's back to the safe thing, if you're not part of the problem...where is the risk, impact or concern for you then?

...here's an example. 0821 this morning, one of those stupid little civic half car/half wagons coming hauling up the on ramp... gets 2.5 feet off the bumper of the car head, whips to the left lane 4 feet ahead of a box truck, get on the bumper of the car ahead of him and whips to the right lane, then jumps across 2 lanes left. All this from the entrance on 45 after Richey and before he makes it to the top of the airtiex overpass. All it would have taken was one person to hit their brakes and you'd had 2-3 lanes tied up with damaged cars.

If trhis 'project' can put a dent in shyte like that...more power to them.

Not personally concerned about the program itself, but the principal of the thing...

If this works why not try it in other areas other than traffic? Slippery slope and all that.....Again, I understand the whole "if you aren't doing anything wrong" thing, but it's just a little draconian for my taste, that is all.

"By areas other than traffic" I was not referring to serious crimes that is a no brainer.

so, what kind of other areas are you referring to? they have undercover cops doing soliciting, drug dealing, finding pedofiles, finding serious traffic violations.... what else is there they could do it on that they aren't?

Slippery slope, where? :-)
...and where is the draconian aspect?

It's not like their pulling you out of the car at gun-point, tossing a bag over your head and dragging you off to some un-named facility. They give you a ticket, or take you to jail depending on your speed/offense.
