gear doesn't help in some cases. esp. impacts to solid objects at high speeds.

I just rode home from training last night. This must have happened afterwards. The BJJ school where I train is right at that intersection.

The speed limit on Champion Forest is 30mph. The limit on Bammel N. Houston is 40. Bammel is straight right there, no curves. Champion Forest has a nice sweeping curve.

Riding "at a high rate of speed" in that area (not a major highway, but regular streets) + no helmet/gear = darwinism. Sorry to be so blunt, but it's true.

Holly chit I live in greenwood forest. I always go that way to go to the beltway. I am litteraly 2 min away. I always take that corner a little faster than the speed limit. Its a fun little curve to take leaving my house. No more..... RIP Yeah that curve at high speeds is no joke. There is construction right there so there is dirt on the ground usually. And on the outside of the curve is telephpne poles and wooden fences. If he didn't hit that pole he probably would have hit a 4x4 or went thru the fence and landed on someones back door step.

yeah its right infront of my neighborhood....drove home last night around 1am...and saw that they blocked off the whole front entrance. i saw a motorcycle and a body. i knew something was up and was gonna post this, but had hw to do. hopefully it's not the guy that live down the street from me because he only been riding for a month or so. but man hopefully its not him because i always see him riding without a helmet on his black 600rr. :/ but rip to the falling rider. No matter if he did wear gear or no...his life was taken so lets all just give a lil respect and prayer. no need to blash some more.

Here's what Chronicle reported:

March 6, 2008, 4:23PM
Motorcyclist killed in north Harris County accident

Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle

A motorcyclist died in north Harris County early Thursday morning when he ran off the road and struck a utility pole, Sheriff's deputies said.

Robert Fitzgerald, 31, was driving his motorcycle eastbound in the 11400 block of Champions Forest when he swerved out of his lane and ran off the right side of the road and hit the pole, deputies said.

Fitzgerald was thrown from his motorcycle and killed, deputies said. He was not wearing a helmet, they said.

There is a double curve in this section of the road heading towards 1960... maybe a slick spot or a lane change at the wrong time... I think it's possible it could have been a 'blind turn' if he was switching lanes from inside to outside during the turn...

He was heading towards Bammel, not 1960. There's a sweeping left turn on Champion Forest just before you get to Bammel.

Well, they reported 11400 Champion Forest - which is at 1960 (Bammel is way up around what 16000?) - maybe they reported the address wrong... sorry about that.
