I think $3 + gas prices are making more people commute on their bikes. Just wait till it is $4 a gallon and see how many bikes on the road and the accident rates go up.

RIP to the fallen rider... hope the other recovers soon.

this fact alone is making me want to buy a 250 for a daily. buy rain gear, and put the truck in storage or something

Man I hate hearing these things. I hope the family of the fallen rider handle this loss as best as possible and the injured rider gets back to 100% and learns from the accident.

This subject makes me worry about my BF a lot. He rides almost everyday and comes home late at night almost everyday. I do not see the point of riding at night. It is just way too dangerous IMHO.

I can understand your concern. I have been surprised at night in my cage by some crazy things in the road. But EVERY time I ride at night on the bike I take it real easy and try to use the brights whenever possible to light up more of the road. He'll be fine. Just tell him to take it easy at night.

Yeah, take it easy, but I don't think it's good to go slow, either. My biggest concern about riding at night is getting hit from the rear. Therefore, I travel slightly faster than traffic. I feel that if I stay behind a cage constantly, any cagers coming up from behind may not discern between my tiny, single tail light and the tail lights of the cage in front of me. If I do expect to be stuck behind a cage for a while, I'll move periodically from one side of the lane to the other, to make my presence more obvious and conspicuous.

And I'll never ride at night when it's raining (unless I have no choice), because I like to believe that any cager won't see me until the very last second. It's hard enough to see the road stripes sometimes, when it rains at night.

I just found out that I know the one from Beltway and 59.

I haven't got first hand details yet from the family but a news story says he took a corner to fast and went over the side of the freeway.

Sux.

He was a Harley guy.

RIP Doug
