This was sent to me earlier...

Fellow Interns-

I know that some of you live within the Metro Houston area or have family living here and therefore have heard the many hurricane news. Some of the Meteorologists that I work with have informed me that this hurricane is pretty strong.

I don't want to start a panic or sound paranoid, but if you and your family could leave Houston over the weekend it would be the best. If not, make sure that you stay away for the Metro area or stay in the West of Houston. I've heard that there is a festival in Austin, therefore is pretty packed and that in San Antonio hotels are completely booked. Research accordingly.

There is a possibility that Houston could suffer power outages. Make sure you have enough batteries or a power generator.

During Katrina, people jammed telephone and cell phone lines, therefore, try to use text messages (they use less bandwind).

The Hurricane could possibly become Category 5, which would make it the strongest storm in this region since Carla in 1961.

Here is some links for your information:

Hope that this does not go for the worst.

Re: Big storm comming what are you going to do?

yeah and its barely moving at 13mph.. at that speed it would hover over the city for a while and cause even more damage. Not to mention the barometric pressure is currently at 898mb and dropping.

For those that don't know about barometric pressure it is the atmospheric pressure tha pushes on us here on earth. you don't feel anything because you're body inside is equal to the pressure outside, cancelling it out. When the pressure outside starts dropping however your body has to equalize and you have things such happen as your ears popping and you feeling short on breath. so what this hurricaneis doing is it is depriving us of oxygen in a way. we are normally at 1000mb.
