Very eventfull ride this weekend through the Forest...

We were making our usual ride up through the National Forest and a fairly new rider on an 05 Gix 750 went off the road. Not hurt too bad, just a little banged up. But while about 4 EMS vehicles were parked there at the scene a guy on a Buell comes flying around the corner and flys off the road and almost hits everybody. The bike flips end over end and the guy crushes his arm. He lands in this 2 or 3 foot black nasty water and some at the scene jump in to help him.

Click here to see more pics and comments from those on the ride and at the scene...

I think the 200 bicyclists we saw riding in the forest all over the road are a big nuisance..

right, cuz slowing down and waiting to make a "clean" pass is not a option.........

yep, I don't know why cars seem to think they can pass these bicyclists at any time. If it were another car I think they would wait until it was clear to pass, but since it is a bicyclists they seem to just pass anytime, even if it is going to take up a good portion of the other lane. Regardless of whether there is oncoming traffic or not.

As mentioned in this post:
http://jeffhelms.com/ssbforums/viewt...hp?p=2558#2558

from ptd's post:
So I'm still curious on what was the cause of Todd's off? Just curious if it was similar to an incident I had earlier in the day with the cyclists, and traffic passing them without any regard of me being in the lane (forcing me off the road at one point).

Re: Very eventfull ride this weekend through the Forest...

I saw a guy wreck his 5000 lb Kawasaki touring bike in that very same corner two weeks ago. My friend and I were following him in the truck as we headed to the forest with mountain bikes. He landed in the very same ditch, head over . Unfortunately he had a 7 yr old kid on the back...and fortunately for the kid he just popped off and landed in the grass. Papa was not so fortunate...flew into the rocks at the bottom of the ravine and broke his collarbone. At least he had a helmet...a 3/4.

What caused the crash? Before the accident I told my friend that the rear suspension on the bike was shot or set way too soft, it was bouncing up and down like a cork. Then another biker waved at him coming the opposite direction. He was about to enter the turn and took his hand off the bars to wave back...mid corner. Straight into the ditch.

I havent ridden the forest since early spring...too many po po along with folks riding over their heads. San Felipe to Pattison at 7AM is more relaxing... right:
