Run in with a cop today ... First ticket on my new bike

Today me and a buddy went for a ride down 149 then to 1097 just to have a day out. Well on our way back home after turning around coming back down 1097 we get pulled over. It sucked but was not that big of a deal. After we gave the officer our license and insurance he went to run the info.

Next thing I know is that he calls me to the truck, and asks me to put my backpack on the ground for a minute. When I went over to him, he grabbed the handcuffs and asks me to turn around, while also telling my that my bike is coming up stolen in their computer. He kept assuring me that it was for his own safety and that we would get it figured out, which I completely understand his point of view. Meanwhile while they are calling for tow trucks and other patrol officers to come out, I am getting , because I just bought the bike not more than 3 weeks ago, and was ready to go kick someones .

To make a long story short, the cop finally hears back on the radio that they think there was a mixup as the vehicle they are showing stolen in the computer was a 4-wheeler, and our vin# were just one number off from one another. He then un-cuffed me and proceeded to write our tickets up. By that time I was pretty happy to hear I was just getting a speeding ticket, when just 5 minutes ago I was looking at a trip to jail, and my bike being impounded....lol. But all in all everything went fine. The officer even lowered the speed on the ticket, so the fine wouldn't be so much for us.

He was really nice, and very polite and professional throughout the whole process. There was never any negativity towards us, even after he thought the bike was stolen. He kept giving me the benefit of the doubt, and was believing me when I told him everything.

Cliffnotes:

Got pulled over on my way home on 1097.
Cops computer shows my bike is listed as stolen.
Handcuffed for 30 minutes sitting on the side of the road.
Finally someone realizes its not my bike thats stolen, and a confusion on the VIN.
Cop uncuffed me and writes me a ticket for lower than the speed I was going, and now have my first ticket on my new bike.

All in all had a great day, considering what could have happened.

Also, when we were talking to the officer, he was letting us listen to his radio, as we heard that 2 bikes went down around that area and they were trying to stabilize one of the riders, and were doing CPR on him. Anyone know anything about this? Whoever it was hope they are ok, because it didn't sound good on his radio. The officer said he believed it was either in New Waverly, or off of 149 from what he could tell, by the patrol numbers being used.

the better thing is that the vulture tow truck guys didn't get their hands on the bike and damage it with their towing procedure.

I believe we were going 85 in a 60. He lowered the speed to 69 for us. He was really cool about everything. One of the other officers that showed up told him to keep me handcuffed so that he could take my bike for a spin "to make sure it was in sound running condition"...lol. They were cool to talk to for a little bit.

wondering if the bike that went down passed my girfriend sunday thru the forrest? she pulled up behind a group of cruisers and a couple sportbikers came up and was weaving left and right around the staggered group off a few.
Making us look good 2 bikes at a time

In the case that the Cops found out that there was a mistake after the bike gets towed and impounded ,do you need to pay to get the bike back to you..?? or how is that handled..??

Just wondering...

From what I understand, that would be the case. Being the towing company is separate from the Police Department, and they want their money. And I would have to get my money back from the city, state, or whoever it may be through court.
