Don't take life lightly people! Give thanks for each day you're here to enjoy it.

that does not suprise me AT ALL! sorry to hyjack, but here is why: sorry so long! (copy and pasted from another spot i have this written out, i wrote it on 7/14/2007)

Quote:
I can't sleep, what happened tonight has been running over and over through my head....

we were coming home from a funeral at and we saw a guy in a van weaving back and forth, from the shoulder of the road into the other lane. this is at 9pm exactly. I called 911. it wasn't "their" jurisdiction so they transfered me. I was transfered 7!!! times. During the whole time we followed him we probably saw him throw out a 12 pack of empty cans of beer.

at 9.45 we saw him hit a tree and flip and land back on his tires, he was going at least 60 on a narrow winding road. When we stopped we saw he was hanging out of the driver side window dripping blood. I was still on the phone with the cops. I started to scream at the top of my lungs that he was dead. D was freaking out, trying to cover my eyes. I threw the phone to him because I could not stop screaming. My throat is still raw.

It took the cops at least 10 more minutes to get to where we were. when the EMTs got there they found out he was still alive and got him out and on the stretcher. Then I looked over and they were doing CPR on him and one of the EMTs with me said that LifeFlight was on the way for him. He was still alive when the ambulance took off, but they said he only has a 50/50 chance of surviving.

He never hit his brakes. AT ALL.

(for those of you familiar with Houston, he was on 45 heading south on the north side of Houston and the accident was in Alvin.)
Quote:
every time I close my eyes I see that man hanging out of the window. and i wonder if he has any kids or a wife? when we got home D was looking at ds2 who was asleep and said that one time that man was someones little boy....that really got to me.

I sent an email to our local news station about it. it was a PREVENTABLE accident if they hadn't kept saying thats not my jurisdiction, which translates to me thats not my problem.
Quote:
i plan on calling the news station, i hadn't thought about the news papers. thats a good idea.

i mean seriously???? he was drunk, i was calling to report it and they couldn't gives a rats about it. he went through 2 counties and 5 cities i think.

my husband keeps saying that at least no one else was hurt, that it was just him and not a family. i just hope he lives. it is soooo nerve wracking.
Quote:
damnit! he died last night. i called dh to get the number of the EMTs that were there and he called me back with the news. i don't know if he was married or if he had kids....
Quote:
i have had no luck with the news stations, but i work with a guy that also works at the newspaper and he is going to get me in touch with someone there.

why am i running into roadblocks EVERYWHERE with this???
Quote:
i forgort, i work with a guy that was his neighbor. so I will be able to contact his family. we want to talk to them, i am hoping i can get some sort of something to help me deal with it...
Quote:
it shouldn't matter what the rules are in cases like these, where the public is at risk (i think they are the same). they could have at least stopped him until someone in the correct "jurisdiction" could have bothered to show up.
Quote:
I got a reply from one of the letters I have been sendng out

Ms. Scatter,

I apologize for your frustration with 911. The situation you speak of is currently common when cell phone users are mobile (i.e., following a moving vehicle) and cross several jurisdictional boundaries and police service areas. Typically, a call such as yours would have been handled by one police agency with the mobile caller remaining on the phone to provide his/her direction of travel and location. In this case, it appears you called 911 several times, with your call being sent to a different 911 call center each time. These 911 call centers service different police jurisdictions. I have forwarded your email to the Deputy Director of Greater Harris County 911 to see if there are any initiatives underway to address an incident such as the one you experienced.
Quote:
I got a call from a reporter and they want to do a story. he even said that he will try to get it to the legislator and see if we can get some bills (or laws?) amended for the jurisdiction BS
Quote:
i have another update. my husband and i had our interview yesterday with a news reporter. he said it will air in a couple of weeks because he still needs to get a couple more things together, like some pictures and interview some more people.

I had the same problem a few months ago when following a impaired driver in manvel. I called 911 when we both exited from 288 on to hwy 6. I stayed on the phone with the 911 operator all the way through manvel until she let me go and nothing... I called 911 again when we got into alvin and she had no idea what I was talking about so I had to start over again... I lost it with that operator and told them their system was a joke. Never once saw a cop and got any help.

WOAH! I had a dream last night that I was driving on the highway and had to dodge a car going the wrong way. That's just weird.

Horrible sounding crash. Sorry to the family and friends of those involved.

I can't tell you how often this sort of thing happens... as a professional driver I have had it happen to me personally 4 times. Luckly enough 3 of the times my cb was my best friend and there was chatter about it and was able to slow down and move over... one time in my pick up truck on 146 a little ol lady cruising at 45mph going the wrong way. I feel for the innocent people involved. Such a stupid way to go cause of some idiots negligence.

That's crazy. I just left my house a bit before 11pm last night at 290 and Huffmeister and I saw 4 police cars + 1 fire truck with sirens blazing trying to get somewhere more westward on 290. I had no idea it was so close to home.

Very very sad.......
