Sold my '88 Katana 600 Streetfighter, '80 Yamaha XS650 and 2006 Yamaha 125 TTR. Lookin 4 a new 1...

Exclamation 80 Yamaha 650 Special questions

Hey Yall, I am new to MH, and I have some problems with my 1980 Yamaha 650 special, namely, it is not charging. Someone mentioned the stator and brushes to me, but I know nothing of working on bikes, only cars. I tried to talk to the shop manager of my local Yamaha dealer and he was no help. Seems that they don't work on bikes this old. Anyone know a reputable dealer in town I could leave my bike with for him to look at and fix, who is reasonably priced?

PM me or call me at 832. 594.3004

Thanks.

no offense, but that repair may be $200-300, if thats the case, thats prolly 1/2 to 1/3 the value of the bike, IMO not a wise financial decision.

thats assuming it has reg. wear and tear for a 28y.o. bike.

wtf racerx... you know nothing of his bike. If it were to cost 4k to fix this would be a valid statement... 200 bucks to repair a bike is nothing. He didn't ask if it was a good investment.... he asked for a place to get it repaired.

you did up until the point you showed your by telling him his bike isn't worth repairing. You wanna know the truth? I have observed you disrespecting so many people on a regular basis I find it absurd that you remain a moderator. Remember when you asked me why I was sending my wife to awesome motorcycles for msf instead of you? I sent her there because your a . I didn't want her to learn from you and she didn't want to learn from you. Why don't you try not being such a and you might end up with more business. I am sure I am not the only person to feel this way.

I bought an 1980 XS 850 Special for $200 a few years back. It had sat up for a couple of years but was in pretty good shape though. I cleaned it up real nice and then paid to have the carbs rebuilt, new battery, and the fluids replaced. Spent around $300-$380 for that. Thing rode great and was a pretty bike to. I sold it when I bought a new bike and I've regretted selling it ever since! So keep it if the repairs aren't too expensive! Alot of shops may not get parts for a bike that old ...so check ebay for cheap parts! Check with the shops on the site for help like motorcycles unlimited.

Thanks, the amazing thing to me is that it runs so well considering it's age. Starts 1st or 2nd kick everytime.
