Gettin race prepped......

.....just wonderin for all you tryin to convert me, but I was wonderin what I would need for gear, to be acceptable to do a track day?

What kind of leathers?

How to determine size I need?

Are there loaners, and how much?

What else that would emcompass me doing a track day?

If I get some good, serious, responses, I might be more inclined to want to get out on the track. So here's your chance....

any decent leathers that are proven to hold up....

fieldsheer makes an affordable set of leathers and hold up pretty well during get offs

go to patrick at Motorcycles Unlimited and get fitted for whatever brand you want. he has probably every size fieldsheer carries at his shop. they also rent leathers, it's $100 to rent leather, gloves, and boots with a deposit also.

get a good helmet along with the leathers, good boots, and gloves.....and an open mind and willingness to learn.

you won't regret coming over to the darkside

What would be a decent race boot? Like I said, I dont have alot of cash, but dont mind spending a little bit for quality. If I can get a good idea of total price i'll spend, then I know what to save up for, thus allowing me to make it to a track day.

Also, dont you owe me sum free pics?

Sidi or Alpinestars are good boots.

If you don't have leathers or don't have any to borrow, I'd recommend renting for your first track day. That way if it's not your thing your not out big dollars.

If you decide you like it, we credit the rental fee towards the purchase of a new suit.
(We never did the leather rental thing to make money, only to provide a way to introduce people to the sport without having to make a huge cash outlay for gear. Kind of my way of giving back to a sport I've loved for over 30 years)

Two pieces of advice;
1) Don't try to be the next Rossi on your first track day.
The track is much different than anything you've ever ridden.
Most tracks are built to challenge a rider, not keep grandma from going off the road at 60 mph ala 610.

Plus there's no clearly defined 12' of roadway. Some tracks are over 50' wide in the middle of a corner, it can become easy to get lost.
Take your time, learn the track at a much slower pace and work at becoming smooth. The speed will come on it's own.

2) If you do decide to join the sport, don't skimp on gear.
No, you don't need a $1000.00 set of leathers, but you do want good quality PROVEN boots, gloves and leathers that will do their job if you go down.
Gear is ALWAYS cheaper than skin and bone grafts.

Good luck, and if you need any help or advice, feel free to ask anytime.

I appreciate it patrick. Ever since cornerworking that CCS event, it's weighed on my mind heavily to try a track day. So now, it's just gettin down to the nitty gritty of what I will need, what I will spend and what I can learn from my first track day.......

the main thing about the "first" trackday is getting comfortable with being ON THE TRACK. once that is accomplished (could be your first trackday, or the next)....learning the good habits and breaking the bad habits....and everything will fall into place after that.

good instruction is the key. good habits are easy to learn....bad habits are hard to break. come out to Buck's noob day and give it a shot. i'll be at most of buck's events, and would be happy to help ya if needed.
