Ive known something was wrong since June 06 went I went bck for a followup appointment from an appt. 4 weeks prior and I had gained 10 fkn pounds. When I told my, then, doc, she kinda scoffed and brushed it off, telling me I need to go to weight watchers or something.

I started crying, because i KNEW that it wasn't how/what I was eating, because I've never eaten incredibly bad, and I'd maintained the same weight since I was out of HS (5 - 6 years), with its normal ups and downs, but NEVER like this.

I got severely depressed @ that time, about my weight and because I didnt know wtf was wrong with me, but I KNEW something was...but no one would listen.

I went to another doc for my weight, and again...they said no, just do weight watchers and you'll be fine.

All the while...i had been reading about pcos and thinking...wow that sounds just like met...

Finally last month I went to my doc and asked about PCOS, he took blood, did some tests, and sure enough...I have it

Its just kinda weird and i can only hope this doesn't get any worse. Thats my biggest fear..that it will end up turning into something more complicated and it scares the out of me.

sometimes ... just knowing what you have, that it's real and not something that's in your mind ... is a blessing ... now you know what it is ... now you can try and do something about it.

that in a way is true. i also had an abnormal pap and have been scared since. i had a normal one about 6 months after and found out that my mom had ovarian cancer but it was caught early and they were able to get rid of it all. but it still scares me every time i'm up to go again because i do want kids and it would kill me if i couldn't.

not wanting to have kids is completely normal. i have friends and family that don't want kids and are perfectly happy that way. however having one and not wanting it is not. i know people like that too.

WEIGHT GAIN!!!
This is the issue that I have been struggling with the last 2 years. In June of 06, there was an unexplained weight gain, causing me to gain about 10 lbs in only 4 weeks. This totally blindsided me. I hadn't changed my diet/eating habits, I had been eating the way I normally eat, but wow.

PCOS leads to insulin resistence - symptoms of IR include:
Weight gain, fat storage, difficulty losing weight. For most people, too much weight is too much fat. The fat in IR is generally stored around the midsection in both males and females

Depression. Because carbohydrates are a natural "downer," depressing the brain, it is not uncommon to see many depressed persons who also have Insulin Resistance.

It can also lead to type II diabetes and diabetes runs rampant in my family so that is a VERY scary though.

increased hair growth on stomach, chin, back, tops of fingers, etc
granted, i don't have hair on my back or anything like that, i have noticed an increase in hair grown on my chin and a LITTLE on my stomach. I know that sounds gross, but I'm just putting it out there.

irregular periods
my periods have never been regular, in fact, just recently, I went almost over 2 months without one.

acne
i don't have full blown acne, but I do get occasional breakouts...

Anyway, sorry if this was TMI for you guys but I wanted to put that out there and say that I'm not fat for no reason lmao :P

that's only some of the symptoms that I've been experiencing, but there are alot more where that came from

that is my blog on myspace, so I thought that I would re-post for those that don't have myspace. Not that anyone cares, but I figured some of the ladies of MH might

sorry girl is there any cure for it?

I have it as well! I found out about 3 years ago when I was having alot of health issues with my liver and common bile duct! So I feel you on all accounts! I can deal with the weight gain and other issues mt biggest problem is the pain during my normal ovulation period! OMG!!

no cure, only treatment...

update: Doc put me on metformin...a pill they use to treat type II diabetes. Took the first one last night. It's an incremental dosage. 1 pill everyday for 1 week, then 2 pills a day for 1 week, then 2 in the am and 1 in the pm for a 1 week then 2 in the am and 2 in the pm ...

so far so good, haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary, doc said it may mess up your stomach i.e. diarrhea, nausea, vomiting etc. Has cut my appetite alot...doc even said that a common symptom of IR is increased appetite. :/:

Thanks everyone for caring, you guys make it alot easier

Sorry to hear about this, Amber, but keep fighting! Ana just found out she has hyperthyroid, and until it's under control, she cannot have any kids either.
