squeal from gas cap

I noticed last night there was a squeal sound coming from my gas tank cap after i shut the bike off. it seems to go away when i press down on it. Any idea how to fix this? Sounds to me like something's just not sealed right. Also i did notice this a few weeks ago after a ride, seems like the fumes are leaking out of it, but i paid no attention to it till last night when i heard the sound.
Is there something i can tighten up or should i replace the gasket(s), if any or just replace the whole cap peice?

Check your vent hose 1st and make sure that it's not kinked or plugged.

Really?! Can you smell fumes,...significantly more than other bikes? I think i'll take it in to get it checked out, cause the smell is really strong. i thought it was because of the undertail at first, but i traced it to the tank.

It's just the pressure venting, no big deal. Check your vent tubes to make sure they're not crimped, and it's not a bad idea to clean around the cap (though it won't make any difference, that's not causing the pressure).

There is a small hole you'll see if you take off the cap assembly. Used compressed air to make sure that's not clogged and you should be all good (obviously, check to see if the vent tubes are not crimped first).

I think most Japanese bikes are designed to vent/breathe through the gas cap. After a ride when you're parked up the heat from the engine will cause the tank contents to expand and normally vent through the cap. My old GSXR used to make a hissing sound at this point.
As you ride and the gas is used up, the tank breathes through the cap preventing a vacuum forming.
All pretty normal stuff.
I used an airline on my gas cap at a fairly low pressure and never had another problem.

I'm betting on a vent tube being clogged or kinked though. Your '07 bike might be new enough that you could take it in for a warranty claim depending on when you bought it I guess?

Quit being girls. It's TOTALLY normal for our 6R's. You'd have a problem if it DIDN'T vent.

My SV was terrrrrible about doing that. Anytime it's warm out or I just rode it, it would vent out the gas cap. It freaked me out for a while because it actually sounded *electronic* like a steady beeping coming from something. Finally, with Patrick's help, I traced it to the gas cap and now whenever someone points it out I just say the bike likes to talk.

My '07 does it, too, and has done so since day one.

I'm guessing its a Kawi thing (from the posts I've read).
