Hi People,

I did a recon for you guys this morning.

Road is hard packed sand, with some washboard and not to wide.
We are forecasted to get rain starting Wednesday night, Thursday, and Friday morning. I only had time to go down three, or four miles, if it dosen't rain too bad you might be able to get off the road and setup maybe! There is water standing on both sides of the road and several places it looked like it was over the road earlier. I took a few pictures this morning you can see them here.
http://s126.photobucket.com/albums/p...g%20rd%20ride/

Pretty easy to find, go south down I-10 to Beaumont, then take Hwy69 to Lufkin exit in Beaumont, follow to Lumberton take HWY 96 in Lumberton, follow it to Silsbee, Chilli's on right in front of Super Wal-mart.
Leave Chilli's down FM 327 TO Hwy 69 N, hang a right go through Kountze proper, left om FM 1003,right on FM 1293,
Bragg is a ways down 1293 on the left that should put you on the north end of bragg where I took the picture to the sign.

I have a messed up work week, but I hope to fix it so I can ride with you guys! If you need more info, PM me.

Hope it helps you Homies!

Charles

Hmmm. There doesn't appear to be a whole lot of room there to park bikes, specially if it is wet. Mala, anyone? Do you know how long we are planning being out there?

There isn't a lot of room, but the road isn't heavily travelled; it seems the only real thru traffic are folks looking to see "the lights." I'm planning on us parking in a single file formation as far over as possible, and I was hoping to find or borrow 2 reflective triangles to put at each end. I honestly don't think anyone will be driving for leather thru there though.

Also, might not be a bad idea for each of us to take a thin piece of metal, flat plastic--or something--to put under our stands, just in case we need em. Something to help distribute weight so stands don't sink into the ground. Just a thought.

As far as how long we'll be out there. I really can't say. If we see lights 20 minutes after arriving, not too long. But I ain't going all that way to give up after only a few minutes. Let's just look at it as a nice time to get together and get to know one another. We can always tell ghost stories or play Truth or Dare to pass the time.

I have one reflective triangle myself I can bring. Sounds good. I was just trying to get an idea on is this gonna be like a long middle of the night thing or just to hang out for a while.

Thanks Charles! Your recon has been very helpful. I don't think we'll be able to get off the road unless it's really dry, but if we head down several miles, we'll be able to see anything coming from either direction with plenty of warning. Do you think a single line of bikes parked over as far as possible would allow a car to pass? If I remember, the road is one lane plus a bit. It also seems like some areas are a bit wider than others. The other possibility I've been kicking around is finding one of the access roads that doesn't look frequently used and parking right at the entrance, then we'd be off the road and could move if someone wanted by.

I don't think we'll be greeting the sunrise or anything, but we gotta at least wait long enough that we have a chance of seeing something. We gotta have patience; unexplained phenomena ain't something we can order at drive thru.

It'd be great if you could bring the triangle. I think I pawed an emergency road kit out of a dumpster once, and I'm pretty sure it had a triangle. If only I can find it. . .

You know, it's OK, Hardcoresteve, to just admit you're too skeerd to go. We all understand. You don't have to make up stories about your bike being out of commission.

I have two rather large problems... (Problem 2 I only found out about 3 hours ago) the other has been an issue for too long...

Problem 1 - my bike is geeked... (Anyone want to loan me a bike? I'm over insured and can prove it! I can't steal G-Man's because he'll be riding his to work. )

Problem 2 - Mandatory Tech meeting Saturday from 3pm to 7pm in Cy-Fair... (Anyone gonna be going late to meet the group on Bragg Road?) Anyone else want to ride out late if I can borrow a bike???

PS - I would need the bike around 1pm Saturday, you can hold my 07' Tacoma keys until the ride is over...
