That sucks for the people, and the cop. But that most likely wasn't a very smart way to stop the motorcyclist.

Cycle World has a side bar in the Ups & Downs section about a police officer in Wataug, Texas that was caught on his own dashcam swerving into oncoming traffic to stop a motorcycle that had run a red light.
The rider and his passenger were thrown from the bike. The rider spent a week in the hospital and the passenger suffered severe head trauma and months after the August 2007 collision was still undergoing rehab.

So what was the officers punishment?

60 day suspension for "violating company policy".

Suspension? WTF?

Every time a cop gets fired, an angel gets it's wings, and a new Houston Police Officer is born.

Heh, I got knocked off my Vmax by a PD who was pursuing a 8 over traffic citation. Apparently my life was worth less than a class c traffic ticket. :/:

Nope that sucks. Just went with the typical M.O.
Apart from that it was still ultimatly blamed on those trying to uphold the law not the ones breaking it.
Stiffer laws "ENFORCED", unlike hpd and others, might discourage criminal activity.
Guess that would be too much to ask, to help prevent, other than to wait until the after effect. Guess that's the way petheticans like it, after effect.

Just curious, did you forget to yield to traffic summons or choose to ignore it?
We are where we are in our lives on the decsions we make.

Traffic summons? You mean the part where he executed rapid lane change in front of me and hit my front tire with his bumper because the PD was too concerned with pursuit of the other vehicle to check his distance? PD's primary function is Public Safety the last time I checked, however it seems that citation revenue is more of a priority these days.

No, I was not the hunted. I've been riding licenced for 20+ years, the was my first street accident on a motorcycle ever.

If you can acknowlage he was in pursuit, yet you felt no need to back out of the way immediately. Then I would have to it was your bad descision coupled with an over agressive cop having the expectation that you would move. Things in our lives are mainly dictated by the choices we make.
