For such a limited run bike, there should certainly be a registry of some sort, so whoever stole it will certainly find it challenging to 'move' it.

SAd thing is how many can "afford" the bike but then "not" afford insurance.

How's he lucky? He can't part it out. He can do nothing with that bike but hide it and look at it.

poor guy. that sucks! I doubt its insurance fraud, but the fact the guy wore a helmet and a darkened visor makes it hard to over look that possibility.

why would the fact that he wore a helmet and dark visor make you think its insurance fraud? hes a robber and he didnt want the owner to see what he looked like.

What are the chances the robber would be waiting at that particular light at that exact moment? How many armed motorcycle robbers are that well prepared? Yes, it sounds like an insurance job to me. Such a hot and high profile item, how could it have any possible resale value? Ebay?

Someone over heard him talking about it at his nightclub and wanted it more than he did? *shrug*

I'd take a bullet for a bike like that ...

im sure an inside job...not insurance.

what would you get from insurance? a break even at best? then you cant do anything with the bike. unless you know another shady desmo owner who wants one for parts?

pffft. not likely, if you can afford that bike, you likely can afford a few. money is no issue. the bike was stolen by someone who DOESNT have a ton of money.

a goon, a shifty "bodyguard" or hired security. someone who knew what club he was going to, and likely when he was leaving. its no co-incidence the visor was dark...at night? think about it.

the goon planned it. nabbed it. and as said before probably going to the middle east on the black market.

...to the same taliban oil prince that sold a share of his daddies oil estate for $5,000 so he could have a playstation 3.

The Desmo owner may take the same route every day.
Most of us a creatures of habit, so if the thief knew he had the bike it wouldn't be hard to figure it out.

If it is legit, there's a good possibility it was someone that knows him / knows of him.

As far as resale, I'd bet there are more than a few collectors that would buy the bike and put it in their house like art work, never riding it.
