Unhappy i wish life was this hard!

ok, so i have a minpin and she's not exactly what you'd call a "lap dog" so spence doesn't really like her, but we've had her for almost a year now, so i'm attached... well my coworker shows dogs (specifically beagles) on her spare time and sometimes she brings them to work for a few hours, so i grew to love the breed. ... so here's my problem......... there is a 5 year old "retired" and fixed show beagle that she can get me for free and i want her, but i know that i'll have to give up sophie (my minpin) for spence to agree to keeping the dog. i'm so sad!!! help!

I wouldn't Spence off. No telling what may happen. Motorcycles can exact some viscious revenge when they get jealous. I knew this guy once who wrecked his rr (he's on here, but I won't reveal names or anything), and when he bought a new bike, he didn't put the pictures of the old bike away, and so the new (I dunno the name) got really jealous and because it has undertail exhaust, it stinks him up every. time. he. rides. Seriously. :/:

And welcome to MH btw!

I have to ask too ~ Who is Spence? Your SO? If the dog wasn't wanted, why keep it for a year? Usually you can work out a good fit within a few weeks to a couple of months. We love our MinPin - total LAP DOG!

Ehh, I gotta apologize. I thought you were playing a joke or something. Or maybe a little crazy. I sort of saw Triumph and thought "bike type" and when you wrote Triumph=spence then I read your initial post as though you were claiming "Spence" your "motorcycle" would get upset about you getting the beagle. Sorry.

yes he's my so.
i absolutely love my minpin (sophie). she's a mama's girl and doesn't sit still for others... only me. she likes other dogs, except for when the boy dogs sniff her , she gets a little irritated. i got the crazy one of the bunch, she is constantly jumping! (her mom can clear a 6' fence!) plus spence is almost never home, so he doesn't really have the time to get to know her to see that she's a great pup. i wish i could have both of the dogs!
really i guess its more about rescuing the beagle. apparently the breeder is crazy. she debarked the dog and tried to sell her. then she fixed her and is trying to sell her at a puppy price. the beagle is kept in a kennel all by her lonesome, not in the house. word around the show world is that the breeder doesn't want to keep her but won't give her away because she wants money, which she's not going to get because any normal person isn't paying $750 for a 5 year old-fixed-not good around kids (because she may bite them trying to take a treat) retired-show dog. well, i guess if anyone knows someone without kids who is looking for a dog and would like this one, let me know. my battle is over... i'm giving up :(

so in order for you to rescue this other dog you would have to give up the dog you already own? who would be rescuing YOUR dog?

well no, but it would be very hard for me to convince him to let me have both of the dogs. we live in apartments which makes it that much more difficult, and i'm already getting away with not paying extra (with my apartment managers approval) for sophie, but i doubt she'd be able to let me have them both without paying the pet fees. but before that i'd have to get spence to be good with it. which is the hardest part of all!

Im sure the minipin is attatched to you, as you are to it. It would probably be very sad if you got rid of it.

Hey you are a sweetheart, my wife really enjoyed the game with you, tell that a$$hole Cogs said you could have both dogs. j/k

Honestly, Beagles are good dogs, but my experience is they are much better outside dogs. It is a natural hunter. Depending on how good the puppy was trained. I guess being show quality it might be a little better for inside, but I wouldn't recommend having it for a lap dog. Just my two cents and experience.

actually, 2 is easier than 1. they entertain each other, they're pack animals. it's good for their socialization.
