Cop made several mistakes: 1) yelling at the kids - yelling always gets EVERYONE agitated and 2) goading the kid by asking some of the questions he did.

Obviously the cop was having a bad day and took some of it out on the kids.

The boys should/could have just shut up and said "yes sir" and "no sir" and we wouldn't even be talking about this.
Or they should have done the respectable thing and RAN!!!

times are completely different now to the times when you were a kid racer x. I'm sorry but abusing a kid in any way shape or form is against the law. so what gives the cops the right to treat a kid that way? in all the cop was trying to throw his badge around saying i'm better then you and your family and you have no right to talk to me like that. So my opinion the cop got what he asked for.

We are commenting on THIS video....the cop could have warned these kids 20 times for all I care....they still don't deserve to be "pushed" around and finger pointed by someone 3 times their size....if he was THAT frustrated with a 14 year old kid not moving him and his skateboard somewhere else, how's he gonna treat me (someone of almost the same size minus 50 lbs of course) when he pulls me over for a MINOR infraction of the law?

It was an example used to give perspective to the point I was making and that's that 1) evidence is mostly, always fragmented 2) the video is the only bit of evidence we have to work with and assumably it would be the only piece of evidence in the case absent of prior citations for relative offenses and such because the incident absent the video camera would be mostly hearsay- the cops word versus the teens'. That video though, speaks volumes. I would assume that the lawsuit will focus on it wholly. Perhaps you do see alot of discussing on these boards about one article but after having read through a few- if I was in fact part of the discussion- there would be more than just the article that was up for discussion but all specifically relative topics/facets of the conversation. But yes, we'll just agree to disagree...

not too mention his comments like, "where are from? the suburbs?" This is just one more assinine (sp?) statement made to the kid to make him (and his family) feel inferior....I wish the kid would have called him a douche instead of a dude.

Dude? You serious? You sure the US is the right place for you? The former situation- coercion- is not an acceptable practice of a society that considers itself a model of free, democratic society. You, my friend, are hilarious...

sorry Cajun, I dodged this debate with you. I'm too tired to think today, not to mention I couldn't view the video at work. I know you missed me in this debate.

LMAO, yes, your input would have been very much valued in this debate fellow MH Political Analyst lol. I know the feeling, but I just elect not to log on to MH when I am feeling that way cause I know I'll see something that me off and renders me incapable of simply "ignoring" it. Definitely jump in when you get a chance. I personally think you will be of the same mind...we generally are...

With what I can see in this video is a cop throwing his authority around left and right. The article posted after was biased as it comes. The problem that can be implied is that while most can agree that the physical force this officer used was a little too much, there may not be another way to get the message across to some kids. Everyone on here know well to never speak to a cop, referring him to "dude", "man", and anything that sounds belittling because in the end, he has the gun and the badge. The kid should have been smart and replied with respect with spoken to, and then have it recorded so that the video can show him never being in the wrong. Then again, he was already doing something he shouldn't have done.

Though I disagree with the overall tone of what you are saying save for the very first sentence. It's your opinion and you are entitled to it. However, the bolded part is irksome. Regardless of what message he may or may not have been tryin to get across to the kids 1) that was the wrong way and 2) it is not his place and he is not entitled to as much as per the oath he took when he graduated the academy...

You mean being a cop doesn't give him the right to be a parent?
