I think trackdays are more economical in the long run, but there is no substitute for nailing it at the green flag.

Mini racing (the little bit I've done) was an invaluable experience. Everything you learn there transfers to the big bikes, but it'll be cheaper and lots of fun!

Ditto on holding off racing... you will be humbled by regular 'ol trackday guys, and just embarassed by actual racers at race pace.
