Buffet sushi is nothing compared to the real thing found in a good restaurant.
We should do a meet and greet at Ra Sushi sometime. Friday nights are nice there.

I'm not a big fan of Ra. It was nice when it first opened but the crowd has def taken a turn from when it started. Come to Azuma girl you'll like it.

Kaneyama is pretty killer and a new place on w alabma called Aka (caddy corner from flemings) is flippin murder! (actually Aka may not be a bad place for a meet as well)

woot. sushi always makes for a popular thread.

ed- the difference in quality is mainly two things.

1) quality of ingrediants, like produce. cici's pizza is not as good as papa johns. a buffet is going to buy cheaper produce of less quality than a reputable sushi-ya. the buffet sushi ive seen is always california rolls and similar. i dont think ive even seen a buffet with raw salmon. i would not trust them to buy sushi grade meats that have been properly treated. rice makes a difference also. at the buffet they always use way more rice and way less fillings. it may taste the same mainly, but for me, that just isnt right. sushi is meant to be made with care, and nuture the eater, not give him as little as possible for his money. the quality of the rice itself at buffets is less i notice. its hard to put into words, but im sure there are different qualities of rice, just like pasta or tortillas or anything else.

2) the preparer. just the way the rolls are made, i dont think a buffet sushi maker would cut it at a real sushi-ya. there is an art to how the ingrediants are cut and placed and rolled.

sushi buffet just kills some of the magic. you cant thank the sushi chef for a delicious meal, or ask him what he recomends.

but ANYWAYS....this whole thread wasnt supposed to be about going out to eat sushi at a restaurant or a buffet...

its about making it at home!!!!

its easy guys! yes i will still go out to sushi-ya, its a great place to go with freinds or dates, but im going to make it home alot as well. we all can make spaghetti at home right? no reason to go to a fancy italian restaurant just cause you want to eat pasta!!!!

its silly to only go out for it, im sure lots of japanese people making sushi at home everyday. for them its like making a pb&j sandwhich. which is what im doing. what good is bringing sushi into your diet for its benefit if you can only afford it once a week!

plus, think of all the asahi dark and sapporo i can buy with the money i save!!!!!!!
