Re: 03' 883 sportster

ok, the 03 model doesnt mean squat as far as collectability because of the badges. its a 100 anniversary model , but they made tons and tons.
the 03 sporty is a smaller bike, in 04, they went to the bigger frame, wider rear tire, longer frame, , just an all around better bike.
for 6k for an 03 sounds ok, but you can get a far better 04 - 05 model for slightly more than that and it will be bigger, better, and full 2 year warranty.
Badlander is a name of a seat.
I almost bought an 03 for about the same price, about the same miles, then I started researching and found out, with some shopping, you can buy a basic black 04 and up for a bit more. there is NO comparison between the 03 and newer models.

Re: 03' 883 sportster

not a good reslae on the 03 and older now due to the introduction of the 04 models and up. they made the old ones obsolete and unwanted unless the price is real right.

out the door is killer, shop around and write down the prices, then take your book in and talk to mancuso, thats what I did, I had pricing and everything I wanted written down and priced out amongst the dealers. they gave me the price I wanted due to my homework being done. Harleys are overpriced, you gotta do a little work to beat em up and win.

I did, but took some effort and phone calls to compare, Mancuso had the best price in texas when all the smoke cleared. They have done an excellent job with service and care on my bike.

the price seems just about right for me, at least for now.
the new harley 883 are a great bike, and can convert to a 1200 for less than 1k later on.
BUT, to get an xl1200 off the show room floor would yeild dual caliber disc brakes on the front, would get a 1200 with buell xb heads (very desirable), W grind cams( best street cam ever produced from HD) and a veritable buttload of other things. Anyways, the 883 is cool to, priced ok and can always be upgraded

Re: 03' 883 sportster

ok, we ended going to the Motorcycle Man in Dickinson and picking up a 2005 883, Silver 1314 miles with "Eagle one" pipes or someshit like that.

i know i know SCREAMING EAGLE. just kidding guys. so i assume that it has a stage 1 kit on it. its really nice looking runs nice and smooth, i rode it back to the office for my freind Roy b/c he hasnt ridden in about 10 yrs. he said.

He wants to put a "Windjammer" on it..

( windsheild )

but anyway it is a very nice bike, he should love it. and he only gave 7k cash out the door.. I dont think thats tooo bad of a deal..

thanks for everyones help in this matter..

Patrick, i didnt know MacMan worked for Mancuso, how long had he been there, My bro-in-law used to work there then he moved to American Iron Horse and now my sister does Customer Service for Mancuso at the 610 office... Does he work at the 290 location or the 610 location?

Sportster is a nice motorcycle. You can do a lot with them. Cruiser, bagger, or cafe. The bike is for a friend? Tell him to check out www.xlforum.net for questions and such.

Well the majority of those forum guys are above 40. That is just incase he has any sportster questions. My boss is on xlforums, and he is 64.

sounds like a great price, great bike, tell him to look at the HD quick detach windshield, kinda pricey, but real nice and looks good as well.
just because it has pipes on it, doesnt mean it is a stage 1, i'll bet hes got a stock air cleaner on there and stock jetting. dealers like to put on pipes to help them sound like a harley so folks will buy em.
I have a SE high flow air cleaner kit I'll sell your bud for 75. complete, costs 130 and this is with a brand new HD replacement filter in the box.

All cruiser guys that have a windshield think everyone else should have one too. They are nice from what i understand. They keep the wind and bugs off of you, and you don't have to hold on to the handle bars so much.

I don't have one because I don't want it up the looks of my bike.

I don't have one because I don't want it up the looks of my bike.
when I was riding with some hardcore guys in bama, we were leaving hooters on the bay and went across a loooong bridge, somewhere on that bridge we hit a swarm of mico sized winged things and when we got to the next refreshment stop, I was the only clean guy there, everybody had in their hair and faces. gross. I love my windshield and hate riding w/o it now. I know it looks better w/o, but the ride is much more enjoyable for me. Funny, I'll have whitewalls, apehangers, windshield and terbow

oh yeah, sounds liek he has the goods on it for a stage one, great buy indeed. right:

Also, Do we have a connection at Mancuso that might help me in a way with sponsorship of some dyno time for my turbo harley project? I'll be more than happy to plaster their name on my new site going up soon (turbosportster.com) and I am also a happy customer

yes indeed they do, need progressive shocks for the rear and fork springs or he can install a 1" pvc spacer on the springs up front and try thicker oil too.
