Re: 03' 883 sportster

They retail for more than that, I know - but not much more. '03 has a little bit more value since it's the centennial edition and should have markings indicating as such (tank badges). The Badlander is a style of seat. Is it a private seller? Your buddy should be able to find ADA info on it.

Re: 03' 883 sportster

6000 sound about right. The thing with harleys is that they don't depreciate very much.

If given the option I don't know what i would buy a new one or a that 03'. There are a few things to consider. The 04' and later have a rubber mounted engine so they are a much smoother ride. Also, a brand spanking new 06' 883 sportster is $6,595. If your friend bought that 03' he would put up 6k even probably. The new one will get up above 7k with TT&L. It's a hard decision. That is a decent deal, but I really don't think I would buy anything that is pre-rubber mount. I know people who think that a sportster that doesn't vibrate is not right, and refuse to accept the new ones! haha.

how about if the bike is actually ridden.....lets say '03 w/ 10-12,000 mi.........how will that hold up?

i hear the great resale all the time......and yes they do hold up better then bikes, but most aren't ridden........i mean look at the 1 carbon is talking about 700mi.......lol i rode that last month.

+1 to the isolated motor mounts

If it has a lot of miles on it I would try to talk him down. One thing that helps harleys keep their value is doing the regular scheduled maintenance (keeping records of that), and extras that have been added on (keep the reciepts).

I saw a used Duece at Republic that was about 2 years old going for 3k over msrp of a new one. That bike sold after a just a few weeks. It had so much chrome and a couple nice engine upgrades.

Re: 03' 883 sportster

how does this sound to you guys for a new one?

We sell our Harleys at MSRP all of the time. We are a
Family Owned and
Operated H-D Dealership, still doing business the
right way. A Vivid
Black
XL883L is $6,995, out the door is $8,056. The OTD is
all the TT&L,
freight,
setup, the bit. As you mentioned, add the $100 or so
to add a
windscreen.

Re: 03' 883 sportster

It's rare to get a deal under MSRP. HD's aren't cars. They try to get you for freight, assembley, advertisement, gas cap, and other misc stuff. You just have to haggle with them for about 2 hours. I bet you can get that 883L for close to or right at MSRP, but if you talk em down below MSRP than you are a bad . Cause below msrp you cutting into the dealers profit big time.

The HD dealship in Arlington is supposed to get you out the door at MSRP, or at least that is what I hear.

TxVrod, did you get your bike below msrp? I've only heard of it happening once.

I bought mine as a pre-own, so, ya. However, one may need to go out of town or out of state but there are dealers out there who will, indeed, sell below MSRP. I hear about it on the V-Rod forum - and not necessarily about V-Rods. One place to check is Barnett in El Paso. The other issue, though, is finding a dealer with decent customer service. That's rare in itself. One needs to do due diligence with shopping around, IMHO.

There's a Harley dealer here? Where?

Need Muddy to chime in here. I'm pretty sure he bought his Sporty below MSRP somewhere in the H area. Mancuso?

Re: 03' 883 sportster

That would be something! Mancuso puts on chrome fork sliders and chrome controls on their new sporties at the Main st. location. I'd doubt they let that go for less than MSRP.

BTW, I'm not trying to be contrary TxVrod. I'd love to see people getting less than MSRP!

Next time i buy an HD i'm going down to Angleton.

And I could be way wrong on Muddy getting his bike at Mancuso. I know he got it somewhere around there.

Shorty,
Get hold of Mac Man, he's the GM over at Mancuso, he should be able to help you out.

Re: 03' 883 sportster

not to hijack, but ive have been seriously thinking about getting this bike to "cruise" and put around.

my questions is will i get tired of the bike and its power soon? i know its not an SS bike but i want something more comfortable for the street that isnt a SS bike.

the price seems just about right for me, at least for now.
