it's a YES or NO ?

kinda funny that i was told about a wrecked bike at one of the SMR's, bike had 3000-4000mi, rear brake was worn out. why?

dude had no clue that the ft was your primary brake, and yet he was riding w/ all these guys at speeds. and didn't know something that simple. think of the riders you ride w/ , are you sure they know what they're doing. MSF may not be the end all, but it's a big step to learning.

it might pain me, but Ive gotta side with Racer X on this issue. Not all accidents are the riders fault of course, but MSF does teach skills that will stack the odds in a rider's favor as far as avoiding the "unavoidable."
Cars will pull out in front of you, cars will try to change lanes into you, the weather and road hazards will try and make you lose traction. These things are inevitable, but with the some of the training offered in the MSF course, a rider will be better equipped to deal with these situations.

Only thing I found valuable from MSF was SSE. Search Scan and Evaluate. All these hours spent on "find the throttle" or "find the brake" was really annoying. That and watching those movies from the 80s like in defensive driving. But overall the affect of hearing an Instructor tell you not to be a dumb a$$ on the road was helpfull, psychologically.

In September. I am looking into the advanced course where you take your own bike. THAT seems worthwhile.

doubt they have 80's film cuz the DVDs shown in sept. were the newest, and show current yrs bikes/gear in it.

but from the sound of it your mind was already made up about the class before you took it

"Only thing I found valuable from MSF was SSE. Search Scan and Evaluate" you do that already when driving. at least i hope you did.

"only thing i learned"
You can learn quite a bit, while placing importance/value on certain things. Ofcourse I couldn't predict everything I heard in the course. The point is that for two days, you can pick and choose what you found most beneficial. I did say that overall it was the fact that hearing someone in a formal setting instruct you was helpfull in terms of attitude about the course overall.

Trust me, with the mullets and all the cheezy jokes and with no cars past the year 1986 or so, I'm thinking they were filmed in the 80s.

Why do you hold the MSF to be something so sacred to you?
