Thread jack - I've been seriously considering purchasing a track bike that would not be street legal, but would be track-only.

I know that the popular choice is sv650, but assuming that you kept up on the maintenance, would a later model 748 be a good option?

well maintence is more, they're more $ when you crash, and you won't learn as much. so in a nutshell NO.

SVs are the BOMB! esp. at the track.

Won't learn as much?

Is this because they are more powerful? Require more skill to ride well? What exactly is your reasoning behind this?

the duc is not as forgiving, yo make a mistake you crash.

the SVs becuase the handling you can get into a bad sit. midcorner and you can make changes and you won't crash.

also SVs teach you more about carrying cornerspeed. vs using hp to get you out of corners.

I'll probably end up going the SV route, but maybe get a duc too, after awhile. I really want one.

I would get a sv before a duc for a track mule. the 748's are expensive to crash and valve rockers tend to wear out very fast and have to be replaced every so often. Ducs are great bikes but the sv is super cheap to operate and crash on.
