thats a pretty special case.

its not something that can be done yourself, and it cannot be done at a dealer either. i believe the DPS or some similar organization has to do the stamping.

he should have gotten that info when he had it returned to him. if you are thinking of buying the bike, i would recommend you have nothing to do with it. tell him to get it sorted out himself and then you can talk.

this is a perfect example of someone trying to "pass the buck" and its probably more trouble than its worth.

Pretty sure once the VIN is altered the Cops are required to melt/scrap it? Sorry I'm no help :/:

It can be done I hear, yes I believe there is more than 1 place for the vin, I think hidden inside, Had a case years ago at a shop I was at where the FEDS I believe came in and had a bodyman cut a hole in the frame of a car, they had a book with hidden places and where on each vehicle and sure enuf there it was, a hidden vin and it was stolen, they called the guy in to (show him something) on his car and busted him, purdy crazy, Only concern would be if U ever get stopped and prolly will on a bike could very easily go to jail, might be more trouble than its worth? BUYER BEWARE

take it to an NDE/NDT inspection company, tell them to Xray the vin area to get the old #, make sure it matches the one he said it was, and then restamp it....

you gotta take the frame off the bike to do this, and it'lll fun you a couple hundred bucks, but you will have the xray film to prove it and it'll be a good story.

How can I get a new VIN assigned? What all do I need to do if this is something I get into? How much money is this?
wont the dps just stamp a new # on it , if you have all the paperwork and paper trail of the bikes crazy history, I'd call 'em and see what they say.
